Roof-topping? Roof-topping! < on 10/31/2018 7:06 PM > | Reply with Quote
I'm considering going roof-topping some time so I can get good shots of a city skyline. I'm pretty new to roof topping so advice on what to do and what not to do and where to go and where not go would be great. Also any advice on how to spot a good location as well as get in that location would help out. PM me if you're in the area and want to come with me one day or if you have any good ideas about places to go.

Are you looking for somewhere downtown, in the perimeter, or just in the metro?

Watch where you are stepping, every step. Be wary of skylights, vent pipes and anything you could trip over. Stay back from the ledges and approach slowly if do with knees bent when near. No mistakes, you need to be spot on. Avoid situations where balance alone is your only safeguard. A good handhold is nice; maintain 3 points of contact always if climbing. I prefer a good pair of high top lace up boots with an aggressive sole pattern that grab rungs in front of the heel of the foot. For climbing avoid soft soled shoes; it makes climbing harder and can give you arch issues. High top boots because an overturned ankle at height can turn deadly. Know your limits, start slow and take your time.

Do what you want. On roof tops you want good traction. If climbing steel I only wear hard sole boots suitable for climbing. Wear them all the time anyway. Protect your ankles...
