| | | I have been carrying a blade in Milwaukee for 20+ years. It is a tool to me, not a weapon. It is amazing how many times a day it comes out and I feel completely naked without it. I have never had it taken from me, even when pulled over. It is a 3" blade. Local law is 2.5" max. I have a number of cops in the family, and at the end of of the day they say "legal or not, if a cop wants to take it, they will take it". Of course if it was a legal blade, you would get it back, but it might be a couple weeks before it was available to you. If you were caught with a legal blade and received a trespassing ticket, they will for certain take it and you may never get it back. Keep in mind these are my local laws, as understood from family members on the MPD force....

| | | Posted by Ptasteful_Pteranodon I always bring my Leatherman Wave. It's a great tool that's come in handy plenty of times, though I've never had to use either of the knives on it. The vast majority of times I've used it have been for the pliers, wire-cutters, or screwdriver.
| I love my leather man too, but have never gotten used to carrying it. Too bulky for my pocket, and I don't like anything hanging on my belt. My knife is ALWAYS in my front right pants pocket, regardless of pant style and where I am going. Leather Man does come on explores though, in my pack.... I was forced to throw a $100 Snap-On/Ken Onion blade away at a Bucks game once when I entered the arena. Forgot to leave it in the car, too far to walk back, my boy wanted to catch tip-off. Was later told by my cop bro-in-law who works in evidence I should have handed to the cop at the door and asked him to send to officer "name here" at district "x" evidence lock up, and I probably would have gotten it back. He said 80% chance..... The other 20% are either a-holes or have no idea who my bro is.... Often wonder if the leather man could be considered a "burglary tool".....

| Yeah, it is kinda awkward to carry around and the case it comes with is pretty shitty, but I love it nonetheless. And damn, that's rough. I get pretty attached to tools/knives I've had for a long time, so I don't know if I could've done that. This makes me feel like I should go out of my way to befriend some cops, though. And probably any cop in a decent mood would realize that its not that uncommon or nefarious to carry around a multitool, but it definitely has come in handy for breaking into places for me. I kinda feel like a multitool would set off fewer red flags for a police officer, since its seen as less of a weapon. I have no clue though, as I've never had any run-ins with police.

| Stay tuned. Meeting cop bro-in-law for cocktails tonight. I will ask him what the general consensus is on multi-tools, as they are def becoming more common... I will guess it is ok on your belt. In your pocket it becomes a concealed weapon. But the real question is: if caught exploring, is it a burglary tool? I'll post an answer Thursday morning....

| Cop bro says it is ultimately up to the arresting officer, but a multi tool could be considered a concealed weapon if in your pocket or bag. You could also be charged with possession of a burglary tools if you are caught at a location that has a history of break-ins and vandalism.... Of course, this is a Milwaukee cop - but I would bet the law is fairly similar in most places....
