So I have a pretty rough conversation with a soldier in the Canadian army and I want to share with you and say what you think. Not going to put name and I remove personal information. Let me contextualize.
He has not implicated in anyway way in the urban exploration, he doesn't even know what it is. It's a guy I knew.
So I ask him if he can procure color flare/fumigene bombs for a photo concept and he answer this:
He after adds that it's illegal and we can go to jail. And it's something that he will normally have to report to our national counter intelligence unit (military police)
I refute by saying that he is wrong and we can buy it online and add an article about how easy we can buy fumigene bombs. Also show some examples of photo with it.
He then told me what it's sold in the marked are knock-off less powerful replicas of what we use in the military, or they're real thing and illegal.
This message he sends me after is what make me so piss off.
I tell his way to think is "black or white". And know a lot of people trap in that. But for me, I'm not following that. If you really want to enjoy life, you need to take a risk.
This is what I wrote:
"I climb crane, illegal rooftop, abandoned stuff. And i don't do take for fun... yes in a way, but mostly because i like the danger, the scary part, and take unique photography. I like creativity, i like to surpass my fear. You think that's wrong and immature, but for some, it is our way to be yourself and not traping in that monotone society. Everyone need to have something to do, our we will go crazy
For example, if ”hunting” become illegal, there will be a lot more criminal, because they don't have something to occupy themselves, the single thing that they love is forbidden. This is my way to see the world. And you can just type photography fumigene bombs and there you go. It's not something new."
So I send some of my pictures of climbing, urbexing...
IG:
https://www.instagram.com/donpicturehd/ And then he adds that I don't make sense, people work in the arts, they don't break laws to do it.
In reality, the article I show him before, it is also about some kid light up a fumigene in the subway. And it gave us, photographer, the wrong impression. We got a little talk about how there will be always some people giving us a bad impression.
And next thing he adds, it's what makes me think he is so narrow-minded and not familiar with urbex. In short, he told me that it isn't illegal if I have the permission to climb a crane with safety equipment and for a reason. As if it was that simple, that they will let us by demanding a permission...
In general what i answer in french is that the way we do our stuff isn't familiar with you. And when he see it's illegal, cause of laws, he doesn't bother to trying to understand why we do it for creativity, photgraphy or any reason. Even I try to explain him from the begening. And this is not some weird shit I'm the only one that do it, just open ur eyes. Be more open-minded.
Before I add something like follow my ig and someone out there that do the same thing like me, he will maybe understand, but he block me before I have to chance. But I already told him everything I have to say about this subject.
So what do you think? Am I wrong? I already try to enlist in the army, after knowing how they treat their soldier by restraint there way to think, I think I will chance my mind.
Sorry for my broken english!
