I've had a slight interest in urbex for a while now, and I've explored a few different locations. However, I recently decided to get a little more serious about it. I'll be posting pictures and stories from my explores on here from now on.
This post is about a location I've had my eye on since before I had a driver's license.
Located in Northeast Texas, this location was opened in 1987 as a Hypermart USA. It was later bought out by Walmart due to impending failure. I have vague memories of coming here as a small child before it was permanently closed. Unfortunately, I dawdled too long and the building was bought by the city and had its interior stripped. Because of this, there wasn't much to see besides satanic graffiti all over.
My friend and I had to search a long while to find an entrance because all the doors had been tack welded shut. We ended up entering through what almost looked like an air duct from the outside. We explored for about 45 minutes before we went onto the roof. Not long after getting up there, we saw a cop at a traffic light. Clearly he saw us too. We made a lap around the roof, being sure we saw everything. After we got to the backside of the building (still on the roof) I took a peek down in the alley behind the building just to see what it looked like from up high. As it turns out, it looked like a place where two cop cars would be waiting for a couple of urban explorers.
My buddy and I finished up our exploring and then decided to take what looked like a viable exit from the front. I had tried telling him that all the cops would do is tell us to leave, but he had even less experience than I when it comes to urbex and he didn't seem to trust me. We tried our exit on the frontside, only to find a 10 foot concrete wall right outside. He insisted we tried to clear it. I went first, and he gave me a boost. I still couldn't make it. I told him it would be find if he scaled this wall, I'd just go out the back and deal with the cops. He didn't like the idea of leaving me but I convinced him. I returned to our PoE in this wide open, darkening building. Alone. I must say I was a little sketched out. It took me a second to find the PoE from the inside because it looked like a door to an electrical panel and I hadn't looked at from the inside yet. I climbed out, and I couldn't help but chuckle at the thought of the police seeing my legs pop out from the air duct looking thing while my torso is hidden. I walked towards them instead of away. I put my hands up. The two officers in the vehicle facing me felt the need to get out and stare me down. The officer in the car facing away from me is the one who spoke.
"Hey, what're you doing out here?"
"Taking pictures"
"Taking Pictures? Of the inside?"
"Yessir"
"You working?"
"No sir"
"Alright, well, y'all don't need to be in there."
"Alright."
I shrugged and walked off, and that was the end of that. Maybe my friend will have a little more faith next time I tell him I can handle some cops or security
I know the pictures aren't the best, but they were taken with my iPhone 7+ and, like I said, there wasn't much to see.
