Today, a friend and I planned to check out a location fresh to the both of us. Unfortunately he wasn't able to make it, so I decided to act solo.
I tried not to attract too much attention from the security guard posted at the front of the building. I snooped around doing a perimeter check for just under an hour which led me to finding a beautiful POE to the property hidden away from the prying eye.
I decided to spend some time documenting the outside of the property and explored a few of the detached buildings which foreshadow the main premises. It seems I was not prepared for infiltration, I found a few unopened boxes of unused asbestos paneling and decided it wasn't worth the risk. I didn't have a respirator so I chose not to spend too much time inside.
As I was roaming the exterior walls of the facility I turned a corner, I was greeted by a thin corridor of overgrowth. On one side stood the south facing exterior wall of the building, on the other a chain link fence with barbed wire. What followed, I was never prepared for. There was a rustling in the plethora of bushes and weeds, which quickly revealed itself. I stood for a second, partly in shock, and partly in awe as a large coyote ran out of the dense greenery and was quickly reducing the already limited ground between us. I yelled, growled, barked, and just about anything that my instincts made me do. He turned around about 5 meters in front of me and ran back, he made one or two circles through the bushes before I saw him charging towards me again. I could not tell if he perceived me as a threat, or a meal. Again I let out the sounds to show him that I meant business. This repeated one or two more times as he paced around the insufficient space. I realized I had cornered him, he had no way to escape but from the very way that I entered his home. Before some frantic roundabouts and confused decision making, the coyote bolted right past me, no more than a few feet away from me, rushing through a fence gate left barely open, and again buried himself in the overgrowth. He was hidden, but not gone, he was still very close to me, maybe 10 meters or so. I looked for him for a little while to get a picture but could not find him. I decided not to disturb him anymore as we had already adequately scared each other shitless.
The adrenaline was flowing quickly and I decided to continue on exploring the building. I didn't get far however as it was too much to process as to what had just happened, every noise was beginning to startle me. I chose to cut the day short, but plan to return soon to thoroughly explore the inside of the building.
