It's an old machine works factory that specialized in elevators and dumbwaiters. They built some of the elevators in the Empire State Building and one for President Roosevelt after he was stricken with Polio. The tall tower is all that's left of the complex. The offices and big warehouse / factory floor are apparently from another business...or were adopted by another business and were spared demolition when they took the rest of the place down. Not sure, but I've read the elevator testing tower is all the remains of the site.

Nice! Any views from atop the tower? Or is it too risky to climb?

I went about 5 floors up (was by myself and the floor started getting creaky plus it was raining, but people go up to the top all the time and I'm a wimp).

Maybe I'll go back with a little more courage

EDIT: The building with the offices is behind the warehouse and out of sight. The structure to the right is just a foundation of something that was demolished with the rest of the Work's site a decade or so ago.

Exploring that place was a dobble win for me as I got both my urbex and elevator history fix. I have two of there hand powered dumbwaiters I use as end tables (no I diden't take them from a location). Here is the video I took https://youtu.be/E1ay-G67z20
