| | | here we are... almost 3 years after buying my 2012 Chevy Cruze 1LT. Let's talk about the high and low points of the car. High points? Economy... this thing gets freakishly good fuel economy. On a recent trip from NY to TN, I was averaging 45mpg at an average speed of 78mph. Comfort... even for a big fat bastard like me, the car is comfy all day long, A/C will refrigerate most things into a frozen state, and the stereo system is adequate for a stock system. Performance - Handling... this isn't a racecar, but on it's 16" wheels with BF Goodrich Advantage T/A rubber (black, holds air people-mover tires), the car will skitter along at warp speed. I have only had it understeer once badly (if you say the road, you would've slapped me for trying to go 50mph through a 15mph corner), but it held. Even though the engine is rated at 140hp, it does get up and go without fear or hesitation. The only caveat to that is when it's exceptionally hot and humid with the A/C on, the off-the-line is a little doggy and you do notice the lack of displacement there. 1.4L's can only do so much at once. At 72,000 miles, the car still does not rattle or thump. It still drives straight and true. Low Points.... well, the paint for starters. My car was finished in Crystal Red Tintcoat which was a $360 option. At 12k, i noticed that the paint was pitted and blasted badly from the doors, rocker panels and leading edge of the quarter panel. After a brief feud with the dealer, GM customer service intervened and the car was painted. At 72k, the paint is blasted again, moreso on the passenger side as that was the side that was utterly annihilated by a large deer in fall 2013. Brakes... this is kind of a two-for problem so pay attention. This car has a small-displacement, low-compresson turbo engine, so there isn't a ton of engine braking available when you downshift. Couple that fact to the fact that i live in a mountainous area... Yeah, the brakes are pretty warped badly and have been since abour 25k. As a solution, I have ordered racing pads and rotors. One pet project (as an aside) is trying to find a wrecked Cruze with a disc brake rear axle and convert my car to rear disc... Anyways, so the brakes suck. And finally, one ongoing peeve is the truck release button over the license plate... I am on my 3rd one in 72k. Other than that, there's nothing really gone wrong with the car. Just thought you would appreciate the follow up... or maybe you could give two shits.

| | | Update... My 2012 Cruze LT now has 93,000 miles on the odometer and it's still chugging along. High points- :still getting great mileage, even with the excess mileage :the direct injection is a bit noisy at all idle, but I was told this is normal :interior is still flaw-free... seats are still looking new, gage faces and cluster/HVAC/entertainment buttons are still tight and look new. TILL has the factory brakes on it all the way around. Not bad for the way I drive. Low Points: :the ongoing saga of the paint... it has to have its nether regions repainted again. :the trunk release above the license plate has failed, again. this will be the 4th button I have installed. Other than that, it keeps on keeping on. I figure by the time I have it paid off, or die, it will have well over 150k on it.
