Truth. Google is useful for pre-scouting and planning. For decades there was no google... Nothing takes the place of eyes/hands on. Most of the sites I've done aren't on the DB... It's fun to occasionally look through though.

Agreed.
Google is great for initial scouting and site history research, but there's a lot of stuff that doesn't show up. There's an entire town up in Monterrey County that isn't really on the net at all, save for some small railroad history.
...You'll still find the best spots by driving around, or otherwise doing recon in person.
