In case anyone was wondering, racism is very much alive and well in Texas...
I woke up this morning with a case of the "I dont wanna's". Having 45 days of vacation to use by the end of the year, I called in and took the day off. With the entire day to myself (Mrs. Ulcer NEVER takes off...) I decided to hit the road and see some sites.
Having located an interesting spot on Google Earth I headed outside Houston to check it out. When I arrived, I began driving around and located some guys in a public works truck and wanted to pick their brains. When I asked about any potential locations, both "gentlemen" (we'll call them Zeek and Gomer) looked at each other, wiped the chaw dripping from their unshaved chins and began doin' some cogitating.
Finally, Zeek exclaims, "I know! How 'bout that ole niggra school over yonder!". I must confess, that upon hearing this statement I was both repulsed and excited. They agreed to show me the way and I hopped in my car following closely behind.
When we arrived, I was told that the school was opened until sometime in the 1970's until it was desegregated. It was then purchased by a steel company who expanded the facility and used it to manufacture fences (neither Gomer nor Zeek knew what kind of fence, when it was closed or when the school was built).
I thanked them both and made my way to a nearby office where a car was parked. There I met a very nice old guy who said that they lease the property now but had no information about it's former use. He gave me permission to explore and said, "The place is wide open. Go on in". As it turns out, his definition of "wide open" was a broken window 4 feet off the ground and only open about 18 inches. Even still I managed to squeeze my obese old ass in and grabbed some shots. Hope you enjoy!
