Back when i was a reckless, drunken teenager, we thought it was cool to stumble into this underground stream to light off firecrackers and make loud noises.
We went with the whole "plastic bags with a half-ass tape job over the shoes" route in those days. We've all been there.
Here, have an old Instagram picture of one of the entrances, snapped many years after the drunken firecracker shenanigans. (Feat. Chuck_Ingalls, 'Lise and Greencheese)
Feel free to skip this next part, as it has nothing to do with the stream itself.. During that time of my life, i was sleeping on the floor of a tiny studio apartment in the shittiest complex in town, maybe a block from the stream. (Sometimes i scored the love seat or a spot on the King bed!) I shared said studio with 7 other people, sometimes more. We even pitched a tent outside the sliding door for hanky panky business.. Well, up until several months later when we received a notice to vacate if we didn't take it down. Sometimes the oven or kitchen sink would actually work. We only bought weed from a 4 year old in the complex once, and only a few stabbings took place, if i remember correctly. Those were some weird times.. Occasionally, i wonder if they ever actually happened or if it was all just a super livid, alcohol-induced dream.
Either way, i didn't really care, as it was either there or a some dirty bench downtown or behind a bush in a park. It's not like i paid money for such a shit living situation. Plus, i was always drunk enough to pass out without a problem. Along with all the shitty malt liquor, the Kwik Trip hot dog and Mega Buddy diet i was able to afford from found spare change kept me going. God damn, was it fun. I think. It was definitely an irresponsible way to live.
But here we are today. I'd say i've come a long way. Haha.
After getting into exploring and not just blowing shit up, i actually (and soberly) explored the underground portion of the stream all the way through and out the other entrance. It took me a while, as i first needed to invest in a pair of hip waders to make it through the deep parts. I guess i could of went with the "swimsuit and shoes" option, but the water isn't the cleanest, and it's always damn cold! The underground portion of the stream runs about 1/4 mile, so it's really not all that extensive. Still a fun spot, though.
After conquering the underground stream, i dubbed it Huzzahothut Stream due to where the 2 entrances are located - One near a Pizza Hut, and one near a HuHot. Fancy, i know. I was probably rather unsober when i made that decision.
Fun fact: Huzzahothut Stream is home to many worms, an occasional crayfish and plenty of trash.
Aaaand here's the last picture. All that reading for just a few photos. Hehe.
This one was taken with a shitty point and shoot. (Feat. Greencheese and his swimming trunks)
I'm not all that experienced with photographing underground/dark places, so this is all i managed to capture this time around. I'll be back sooner later.
I hope you've enjoyed none-the-less! Cheers!
