| | | Since this is the critique forum, I'm going to be brutally honest. These all look like snapshots to me. Lots are crooked and seem to have no thought behind composition. I would suggest looking for some beginner's resources/tutorials on composing a shot.
I think you need to be a little more selective about what you shoot. If you're just trying to document your explore, that's fine, shoot everything. However, if you're trying to pass your work as something more artistic than that, then you should choose what you shoot a little more carefully. Honestly, 2-6, 8, and 9 I probably wouldn't have even taken pictures of. They seem like uninteresting rooms with bad lighting and not really worth the effort it would take to get a good shot of.
I do think, content-wise, 1 and 7 are great shots, but again, the compositions seem off. 1 seems oddly balanced and 7 I probably would have gotten in a little closer for and not allotted so much empty space. Kudos to you for shooting with film though. Us digital photographers are spoiled with our unlimited shots and easy to edit RAW files. I know I personally would struggle quite a bit more with film.

| | | ok i don't want to make this seem like any of us are attacking you, but photography is so much more than aesthetics. Sure, you can take snapshots, but that doesn't make it photography. There is still composition, and exposure and all the tiny details of making a photo. Yeah, it's easy to take an aesthetically pleasing picture, but you just took a snapshot. You have to make a photograph. You have a good basis for shooting film. It's a rare skill to find these days- take it and run. As for your rejection of criticism- don't blow people off. If they criticise your aesthetic, don't criticise theirs. I don't know if you're serious about photography or just want to do it to look back 30 years later, but I'm judging you're looking for improvement, being in the photo critiques. My advice is not to invalidate what others say, because they are mostly experienced photographers, who have shot/explored for years, and some even go to college for it. If you're looking for improvement- don't disregard what others have to say. You'll make no improvement. My suggestion is that you take these users advice, because as a photography student, I thought the same thing when I looked these over, if I'm being honest. Criticism can be tough to take. But this is a situation where even if you don't agree, just smile and say thank you, and take it into consideration the next time you're behind the camera.

why should i copy that style if you already see so much of it then...
| Comparing snapshots to photographs is like comparing sketches to detailed drawings. Sure they're both art, but one is always going to be more impressive. If you're into sketches, good for you, but don't come to a forum asking for advice on detailed drawings if you're only intending on doing rough sketches. They're not just different styles, they're different forms of art. You can have technically good snapshots, but a snapshot will never be as impressive as a good photograph. Snapshots look effortless and careless, something a tourist would take. If you just want to take snapshots, you're doing a fine job. #7 looks pretty cool. If these snapshots are good enough for Tumblr, Instagram, and yourself, don't change anything. If you're happy with them, don't bother asking for advice. But if you really want to be good at photography, learn this style of things. Use this criticism as a tool to improve. Style is something that is usually developed after you've mastered the basics.

LMAO. please forgive me for not taking the criticisms of a 40 yr old man who describes himself as a "fedora and bow tie enthusiast" seriously... your photos are a dime a dozen for guys into urbex and they have like 3 likes each. kinda ridiculous that you get so hurt by someone saying they have a different aesthetic that you have to freak out and be like "ALL YOUR PHOTOS ARE TRASH THEY HAVE NO REDEEMABLE QUALITIES" (like are you ok? do you need anger management?) yet that photoset probably got more attention/recognition than all your flickr combined. because you have no originality and everything you do is generic and boring. you dont have your own style at all. search urbex on flickr and you'll come up with a ton of photos exactly like yours. all shot with wide angle lenses, edited in the same way, composed the same way. i have my own style. also obviously ur criticism wasnt meant to help if this is your response to being dismissed ahaha.
| Hahahaha wow. You really should listen to people... because you're the only one being a psychopath here... after I read your first few comments I just assumed you were a troll because holy shit... No sorry, your pictures are snap shots, not composed photography. Any little wannabecool tumblr whore can feel all warm and fuzzy because they got some likes on their shit. Okay cool, that means nothing. Enter those into some actual galleries and see the response you get. A lot of the people commenting in here are either accomplished photographers or at least have a genuine understanding of composition and design, which you do not. Having your own style is great, but you don't have style, you have a lack of understanding about photography. I have had my film work juried, judged, critiqued, and hung and I take criticism lightly and work to improve each time I receive some. I don't act like a fucking 13 year old in middle school and shit on people who try to be honest. I have seen better photographs taken by patients at developmental centers and state hospitals in their arts therapy programs. I really like how you shit on Yokes, who is actually a phenomenal photographer and extremely knowledgeable about film, and if he tells you your shit sucks, he is right. If you ever want to have a serious chat with people who know what they're saying or at least want to just give you honest advice don't be a fucking bitch back to them. Everyone is sitting here laughing at you, and its not even because you "photography" is poor at best, but its because you act like you mean something. People like your shit on Tumblr... that isn't real life. If you are judging yourself based on "likes" on social media you are literally a moron. But seriously thanks for the laughs, and if you choose to try slam me go ahead because I think you are legitimately a fucking riot.
