Gothic Revival Farmhouse

I recently found out about this beautiful Gothic Revival farmhouse in Ashland County, Ohio and decided to go find it this weekend. Sadly, it has been abandoned for decades and seems to be beyond saving at this point. There is a barn behind it that is in even worse shape. The property is in a fairly remote location with no close neighbors. Even in its advanced state of decay, there is a lot to see here and it is a great spot for photography. The architecture is awesome and there is a spiral staircase near the front door. Unfortunately, I have no idea what the history of the house is but it has been quite some time since anyone called this place home.
1. Abandoned farmhouse in the middle of nowhere.

2. Bay windows. I find it funny that they used doors to board up windows.

3. Parlor doors.

4. There were two sets of stairs in the house. One is this nice spiral staircase near the front door.

5. Remnants of the shower in the restroom.

6. Kitchen cupboards

7. Somebody liked trains. Probably a little boy's bedroom.

8. One room was full of old rotten furniture including couches, chairs and box springs.

9. One of the bedrooms.

10. Nasty couch in one of the upstairs rooms.

11. Really narrow upstairs hallway.

12. In the basement was a workbench, furnace and a few barrels.

13. A closer look at the exterior architecture.

14. Final broken chair picture.

Very impressive! It is a crying shame that such beautiful structures, rich w/ character and design, are allowed to fall into disrepair even as more soulless glass towers and other bland buildings are being built everywhere you look!

Totally agree. I can't fathom how architecture like this is almost completely obsolete while everything else that's been built recently is so boring.

Wow. The Architecture is sure impressive! Such a beautiful house! It is quite a shame it fell into such disrepair. I'd love the history behind this place, what happened to the family..etc. If you ever find out more information please share.

Thanks for the comments!

Here's what I've found out since I made the post. It was constructed by the same architect who designed a nearby mansion that is on the National Register of Historic Places in 1878. This house was reportedly built around the same time. It is currently owned by a local family who is very slowly attempting to renovate it (It has a fairly new roof and the west side of the house has been painted in the last ~5 years.) It appears to be an uphill battle but I really hope they are successful.

There is a story about a "tragedy" that occurred here which is being perpetuated by one of our favorite "artists" but all indications are that it is not true so I'm not going to bother repeating it. Especially since he lists it as outside of Youngstown when in reality, it is about 100 miles west of there. Kind of an embarrassing mistake for someone who has supposedly been there.

I'm from Ohio, too.

This was one of my favorite abandoned houses. I just read in the paper where it caught on fire overnight. Very sad. Be glad you have such great pictures.

That is truly terrible. Between this one and Mudhouse Mansion's demolition, we've lost what, for my money, are the two best abandoned houses in Ohio this year.
