In New Bern NC there is a piece of property fenced off near the water that contains two old silos and multiple foundations of what used to be present for other buildings. The main sight is the large silo with an elevator shaft inside and multiple floors. The fence on the Right side of the property is broken down near the water and therefore easy to cross. The large silo is on the Left side of the field, so you have to cut across to access it. (recommendation: stay in the tall grass and no one will care) Once in the silo, enter from either side entrance. The rear entrance has "Hell" spraypainted near it and is full of water. From the sides you can go through a couple doorways to get to the elevator shaft. It smells bad inside. The rusted ladder is well secured to the wall and after roughly four stories, there is a lamp that you will bump your back on when climbing.
After six stories there is a landing to step off where left over large equipment has become the home to many pigeons. Climb back on the ladder and about halfway up that section, there is another bumpout from where a lamp used to be. After the second approximately six stories you can exit on the main landing. All the windows are open, the glass broken. There is a doorway out on to the top of the silo where you can walk all the way around what is left of the tower. There are holes to the bottom of the silo shafts with rims. Don't trip.
If you go back inside and get back on the main ladder, you can climb up two to three more stories and access a metal walkway with a staircase and a short ladder to the roof. The walkway is rusted but still very stable. When you climb out on the roof, there are only two railings and when I was last there, a giant wasps nest.
Recommendation: gloves for climbing the ladder. If you have a phone with you, you don't want it loosely in your pocket. It's approximately 14 stories down if you drop it.
