Midlands Hospital & Mortuary

After what seems like forever without an explore (in reality it's only been 3 weeks) I finally got let loose on the abandonments again!

By 9.30am myself and my companion had racked up a trio of fails in quick succession so it looked to all intents and purposes like today was heading down the toilet. Heading here was rather glum, it was grey and raining and not very nice but after some dumb luck and bumping into a trio of other explorers the five of us located an access point which proved utterly undignified for nearly all of us, especially me as per usual. We went our separate ways once inside and only bumped into each other a couple more times, the place is huge and keeps going on and on and on.

And the extra special icing on the cake was managing to get into the mortuary, after spotting a pair of other explorers attempting to access it we realised what we had to do to get in, to say it's slightly sketchy is an understatement but all five of us were in after a bit of lateral thinking and more dumb luck. Definitely the nicest mortuary I've seen and with some lovely decayed laboratories on the upper floor as well.

Over four hours later we made it back to the car, pleased that the day hadn't been a total appalling failure.

It's been a while since I explored any site of this size let alone a hospital of this size and despite it's largely modernised appearance I rather enjoyed it.

Wow, I'm really impressed with the condition of the place and the photos you took! Glad your day of exploring wasn't a total bust and thanks for sharing!

There's the crazy one, the photographer, and me, the driver, a mix of both. And we're a pretty kickass team if I do say so myself.

As usual, crystal clear, un-enhanced goodness. I made the mistake of going for a quick UER log-in to see what is new as a break away from a kitchen table piled with weekend job homework. I need a second run through these shots later to really take in the fine details.

Nice! I haven't stumbled upon a mortuary yet, so your photos definitely give me something to look forward to. Thanks for sharing!

I always enjoy your stuff dude, great work. Love the colors in #12.

Before a big explore I like to work with leather. The Native Americans always said that working with hides and pelts releases the soul.

The diversity in this gallery is pretty amazing! A little bit of everything, but #22 is my personal highlight. Second time through and it caught my eye the most yet again.

Thanks guys I'm feeling the somewhat painful and undignified entry this morning but it was all worth it!

Just thought I'd point out as it interested me, the wheelchair in photo 20 was an 'extra wide' one presumably to accomodate those of a larger disposition, never seen something like that before. What it was doing in the mortuary I don't know! There was an 'obese' body fridge as well.

I'm just curious, without revealing the POE, what made it so undignified? If you don't want to tell us, that's okay, but it sounds like quite the story.

My money's on "crawling through a trash compactor."

It's the best one I've seen in person by a long long way, although sadly it would appear that the body lifter which used to be in there has gone walkabouts

Basically, only one open window in the whole massive building with only a narrow opening at that to squeeze in. No room to angle yourself in feet-first which resulted in going in head-first onto a plastic chair placed inside it, trying not to fall head over heels whilst wiggling yourself through the window. Lots of flailing and 'I'm stucks' happened.

Really like how that Green hallway turns to Blue.
Huge hospital with all those ER.Stations and work stations. Was this by chance a teaching hospital? I would think it to be so.
Awesome pics as always & Cool Autopsy tables and Morgue.
