Isn't it funny how some good ol' urbex.even if it is just being at a location takes your mind off things? |
It's some of the best soul food in my opinion. No matter what happens in life, being able to escape it all for some quality alone time (or group time) is key for a lot of us. Exploring is that time for me and I wouldn't trade it for the world. Even just being somewhere and thinking about it gets you to shelve everything else and get to be in the moment.
Someone once told me a metaphor for life that involved running from a lion. You keep running and running and eventually come to a cliff. You can't go back towards the lion, so you see an opportunity to climb on roots all the way to the bottom. You get halfway and see another lion appear at the bottom, waiting to devour you. Can't go back up, can't go down. You see the roots and ledges you're holding on to start to pull away from the wall. Everything is coming down around you. You look to your right and theres a strawberry. Perhaps the most ripe and succulent strawberry you've ever seen growing out of the side of this cliff.
Sometimes we get bogged down in all the crap that is daily life, good and bad. We forget that the perfect strawberry is there. If you eat it, you can at least savor it for a little and be in the present and enjoy what's right in front of you. Not what's happened, not what's in the future. That is what exploring is to me.
Eat the strawberry.
...and then find another place to live away from lions and cliffs. That's fucked up.
