Here are some of my photos from a few recent trips to the most beautiful school I've ever explored.

Built in 1928 in the Mediterranean Revival style for a growing neighborhood in north west Detroit. From what I hear, they never wanted to shut this school down, but an investor assured the school district that he would buy it and set up a charter school. That deal eventually fell through, and the school still sits closed 4 years later. Rumor has it that an offer is on the table to purchase the building, but since Detroit Public Schools is ran by the state, everything has to go through a long line of bureaucrats and takes forever.

Wow, amazing place. I am kind of blown away that it was a high school. Great shots.

It's one of the last of the historic high schools in the city. We lost 3 of them in 2012 alone (Mackenzie, Redford, and Mumford) and the most famous, Cass Tech, in 2011.

Great to see not one dick, slogan, drug reference or swastika on the walls.

Clean and crisp shots!

The taggers have stayed away for the most part. Lots of dicks, weed leaves, gang signs and all that on chalkboards, but who cares about that. Taggers aren't the primary concern at this one. However....

I regret to inform you that they have found it. It isn't THAT bad yet, but it is very noticeable now compared to when we discovered that it was open in early October. We heard scrappers in the building on Thursday when we were last there, but didn't see any of them.

Often we run into kids playing basketball in the gym. They actually take good care of it. If you look at my gym photo you can see the side they keep clean and dust free compared to the side they don't use.

Unbelievable that this was a high school. That theatre alone is spectacular.

These shots are gorgeous, DSomms!! Shot #2 of the auditorium blew my mind away. I wish my high school had a setup like that. It also blows me away how little vandalism/damage there was to this building considering the fact that it's been vacant for years. VERY nice find!

Effin scrappers have no morals.

Scrappers aren't inherently bad people. Every one I have ever encountered has been very friendly. It's just a huge shame that they resort to destroying their own community to put food on the table.

Thank you, but I can't help but immediately notice the dust spots in the middle right away! Guess I need to go back for a cleaner shot lol

Thank you! I'm not sure I would have appreciated the beauty and architecture in my high school years they way I do now, but I agree.

The auditorium is especially hard to shoot. It's pitch black in there with the exception of a little sunlight coming in a door from across the hall. My little T3 isn't very good in the dark and I don't have a remote yet to do long BULB exposures, so I'm kinda limited to 30 seconds if I'm light painting. Thank you!

I've seen actual theaters that weren't as nice as this schools auditorium. It's a gem.
