Decaying Private Airfield With a Full Hangar < on 8/8/2014 1:48 PM > | Reply with Quote
Several calendars here still display December 1986, and a fellow explorer researched the call sign on one of the planes and found its last government flight registration was for 1987, probably done in advance for a season in which it would never leave the ground.

#4 was amazing. Great photos. Is that calendar the year it was abandoned or did someone have an "old looking" calendar hanging up possibly? The aircraft look too new for that calendar to be correct

Thanks all, especially for the pros and cons of #4. I know as soon as you process it, it will be both loved and hated. But it was pitch black in there, and my camera maxes out firmware-wise at only 15 seconds long exposure. The unprocessed one lacked detail tremendously.

Wow! Very cool location. Haven't seen anything quite like that personally. Looks like a beat to shit Cessna 172 in the first pic. 2nd is a Stinson or Piper Voyager. Final with the high T tail I can't tell. Old Piper or Beech maybe. Nice find!
I have changed my personal exploring ethics code. From now on it will be: "Take only aimed shots, leave only hobo corpses." Copper scrappers, meth heads and homeless beware. The Jonsered cometh among you, bringing fear and dread.

What a cool fucking explore!! And I personally enjoyed the variety of processing in your photos - consistency can get boring sometimes and it's fun to explore different options ... with 13 being an instant favorite. Thanks for sharing

I have to wonder how functional the equipment in there is. Very cool.
As for the calendar, I wonder how they found an attractive girl to do a nudie shoot only to have her make a nasty face in the pics. Was the editor looking through, thinking, "She looks great, but we need to make her look pissed off! Like we stole her clothes or something!"?

For sitting motionless, semi-exposed to the elements that Cessna 150 is in damn fine condition. I've seen planes in worse shape for sale on Craigslist. I wonder what circumstances lead people to abandon an entire airfield? Great pics!
