Why are some people calling this kid an idiot? Isn't this what we do? Getting into places we're not supposed to be?

When you get caught trespassing in an abandoned building, most times the police tells you to get lost and don't come back. You really only have a small chance of actually going to jail or paying a fine.

Breaking into something as iconic as the still-under-construction WTC after everything that happened to the original buildings and how the murder of thousands of people affected the nation may be "ballsy" but is also stupid as fuck. Knowing what the penalties for such a transgression can be and realizing felonies don't go away and still going ahead with it can't possibly be classified as an intelligent decision. Swimming with sharks is ballsy too, until one eats your stupid ass. Then you're just a dead dummy.

And yet had he gotten away with it, posted pics etc, you'd be praising him.

Two CNN guys just got arrested at the WTC. http://news.yahoo....ite-224711240.html

“Both then told the officer that, ‘If a 16-year-old can get on the site we should be able to get in as well,’” Damn, that's a good response to the LEO who is asking what you are doing. "If all these photographers are able to get into buildings so can we" is a dangerous line of thought, I mean, props to them for actually going out and doing actual investigative journalism, but damn that's stupid as all hell.

NEW YORK (AP) — A daring teenager who sneaked to the top of the nation's tallest building — 1 World Trade Center — will be assessed in a program for youthful offenders, a judge said Wednesday.

Dressed in a dark suit and red tie, Justin Casquejo appeared before Midtown Community Court Judge Felicia Mennin, who ordered the 16-year-old to return on April 30.

The slight, shy-looking youth stood quietly before the judge, saying nothing during the brief hearing. He and his lawyer declined comment as they rushed out of the building into a taxi.

Casquejo, of Weehawken, N.J., was originally charged with criminal trespass. But prosecutors added a BASE jumping charge — a reference to his alleged climbing in the unfinished building. Both are misdemeanors.

What, how the the hell can they throw in base jumping when he obviously didn't jump? And the last time I checked criminal trespassing had to be you know criminal. If curiosity is a criminal act then I don't want to know what a misdemeanor is supposed to be.

Trespassing is being on someone else's property. Criminal trespass is knowing you are and did it anyway. That's pretty much it.
They're just trying to keep morons from hanging by one arm 35 floors up to grab that all-important Facebook Selfie and plummeting to their doom because the grease from a bag of Cheese Curls made their fingers slippery. Then the parents sue the construction site for not securing the premesis, completely negating the fact Mommy's little angel was also a fucking idiot.

I guess criminal trespass has a different definition than over here.

What's with the base jumping charge though? Kid had a parachute? Or they think he was capable of gliding like a squirrel?

Didn't RTFA.

I thought it was a different group that did the base jumping. And why wouldn't the group of people the kid went with get charged too?
