L'incinérateur no 3.

| | | Posted by leopold Oh oh! Detroit !

| | | Hey everyone I'm originally from Finland, and I am in Montreal studying photography as an exchange student in Concordia University It's hard to say exactly what ignited my interest in urban exploration, propably the fact that I have always quite liked arcitechture, and exploring abandoned places just gives that sense of mystery and excitement to it. There's not that many places in Finland to explore, because most of them are subject to the usual causes: being demolished or burned. And sometimes the places are only found from spoken information, not all of them are in the internet which is good, not to attract any more wrongdoers than there already is. I have been going into various places whenever the opportunity has presented himself, all in all my locations have included four countries, Finland, Sweden, Estonia and now Canada. I was doing some research on the internet for Montreal urban exploration places, but there wasn't many around. I one night was walking down in the Old Montreal area to search for places to shoot images for my black & white photography mid-term critic, and I stumbled upon this massive abandoned complex. Supposedly the interest got best of me and I found my way into the premises. I did some looking around, which was though difficult because it was dark (the yard was lighted though) and dangerous in a sense that guy running around in lighted area is easy to detect. The fact that the nearby trainyard was functional, and the train tracks I used to access the premises were still in use eventually led me to ditch that place since there were train coming and propably they wouldn't like me running around there (I'm not sure did they spot me though). Research on the subject revealed it to be the Silo 5 complex. Later on I went during sunset to take some images and searching for a possible entry, and found one. I took my roommate with me as he was interested on doing some exploring also. When we got there, we encountered some local explorers, who told me that they were from this site and that they had organized a group for some urban exploration business, and they advised me to join this forum. They were extremely nice people, immediately welcoming us to the part of the group, and they also showed us the passages into the complex, and made sure that we didn't got left behind, and invited us even into the group photo! Please identify yourselves, I want to join you urban exploring sessions again! Since I don't want to clutter this post with images, I'll invite you to look my personal portfolio. Most of the time we were in different sections of the complex, but to give you an idea, I was one of the 4 photographers taking the group shot towards the end of the day lol!! I was helping my friend who was having a bit of trouble with his flash ahaha Anyways, nice to see you joined UER, welcome! Would be cool to see you again in another explore session! Here's my flickr for your curiosity, i'm a photo student at dawson: http://www.flickr.com/photos/vincebm/ I'm also quite known in montreal's instagram community, if you're on there too. Buuut I'm gonna present myself in English, as it's still easier I don't exactly remember when or how I started being interested in exploring and I'm very new to it. I think I've always been interested in going to some special and not touristic places but I found that bigger passion and interest just some time ago. It all started when my friend took me and my other friend to the basement of our school just few years ago - I know it's not an abandoned place at all but anyway we were so scared that someone could find us there... But that place is really amazing, we've been there for few times, everytime we found something new and, oh my God, the last time we came across so creepy things! Maybe I will post it somewhere because this is really nothing you would even think to find under an active school building So from that moment, me and my best friend, we got more interested in exploring such places and we already have plans where we must go. But it's so hard to find someone willing to try it with us - everyone is just scared or not interested or just not good person for such stuff... I really love photography, and roofs!!!! The view from roofs is so amazing, I could spend there hours just watching the scenery. I still don't know Montreal so well but I have some places which I really would like to visit but I think I'm not that lucky with people I know (if I told them about my plans, it would be just like 'oh, it's too dangerous', 'oh, I would get up too early for that', 'oh I would rather go partying', 'it's too cold/hot/raining/snowing outside' and blah blah blah...) and I really don't want to go there alone (sometimes it's dangerous as hell, especially for a girl..). So if there's anyone who would like to go anywhere - I'm all in! Kamila
