| | problems with auto theft? < on 2/1/2013 6:23 AM >
| | | Has anyone ever had problems with their ride being stolen or broken into? A lot of the places we tend to go are not exactly in the best of neighborhoods. How do you folks decide where to park, I think this is often overlooked, but it is worth thinking about.
Everyday is an exploration! Go out and do something new today :D |

| | | Simple solution? Drive a shitty car into shitty areas. Of course, I have a fleet again so I can choose which one to drive. Don't leave anything valuable in the car. Ever. This is just good practice in life.

my m/c shop in dallas used to sell mini-safes to lock your pistol to your motorcycle while you went into the bar. i drive a white ford ranger. 2 orange cones and i can park just about anyplace.
When I say I'm 'clean and sober', it means I've showered and I'm headed to the liquor store. |

| | | It's insured.....hope it never happens, but a stolen / burglarized car wouldnt be the worst thing in the World. Actually would be nice to get some payback from my insurance company....they take so much, but give back so little. I'd pay off the rest of the loan and buy something with more traction and more boost.

Yes works fine, and if you have an amber light in the roof, even police doesn't care what you are doing right next to them.

I wouldn't mind (other than the walk home) to come out and find mine gone. Hell, I would make out better with what the insurance company would give me.

| | | If some areas are out of the way, or even have room to park in (Areas that were previously used to having vehicles) then you can just leave it there. Many of the places I go to were built to be accessed by vehicles so I just park in the garages or next to the buildings in the woods. Plus it's a silver PT Cruiser.... I can pretend to be a lost family or grandma.

| | | If you can, park in a business lot near where you're exploring (Dunkin' Donuts, McDonalds, etc). There's a much lower chance of something shady happening to your car, and if by some chance it does get broken into, there will be plenty of people in the vicinity to witness it and be of assistance with identifying the perp. Another suggestion would be, if possible, to park in a location where you'll be able to see your car from the building you're exploring. That way you can keep an eye on it yourself, and check its status throughout your explore.

I remember he posted about an explore one time then got busted by a cop, came back, and his car had been broken into, but they couldn't get into/didn't know about the safe so his valuables were...*cough* safe.
