I want a split window Beetle so bad. I'm also a patina guy, so I'd have a hard time painting it for a while.

Then again, I loved Rusty Slammington. Of course, I wouldn't do that to a desirable car.

Everyone on thesamba.com is telling me to leave it as a patina ride, but seriously I want to see that thing shine like the day it rolled out of the showroom.

I will definitely be rocking the patina look for a while though.

Why?
if cars were ment to look like aged shit, they'd look like aged shit coming out the showroom.

There's just something cool about cars that have survived like that. It's only original once. Why not have a little fun with it before you restore it? That gives you plenty of time to get it running really well.

I absolutely love the ratted out look. Not certain why. Though I completely agree with leaving it like that for a bit, and getting it showroom new once the time is right, especially for a special car like that...Have you been able to find out for sure if it was 'the' black Beetle from the first shipment?

If you're like me and subscribe to the philosophy that real rides are built and not bought, chances are you've got something pretty cool kicking around your garage. So let's see them!! Post your ride, your plans, and progress.

Mine's kinda a long story sorry.

How'd you like removing those turbo flange nuts? My boyfriend had to grind down one of his wrenches to fit back there when he was working on his friend's cars... a 91 Spirit R/T and a 91 Spirit ES 2.5 Turbo (ironically, also white).

As for our projects? Where to start.

2000 A6 2.7tt Quattro 6 Speed. Now has headers, KO4 turbos, 3" downpipes, 80lb injectors, and a short-throw...Car DESPERATELY needs a tune. Also needs the 1/2 shift collar replaced and a cam tensioner seal on driver's side. Engine and trans currently out. Car's been down more than it's been on the road.

1998 Volvo V70 wagon... Bought off a neighbor after it was t-boned. Needed a strut, wheel, and fender. Bought coil overs to fix that and replaced all the control arms while he was in there. Added bigger injectors and a manual boost controller. Cats are gone, 2.5 straight to the bumper. It's comfortable at 12psi currently, but will be seeing 15psi after swapping to a 16T.

HOT PINK 1983 Trans Am... needs the shitty Crossfire 305 replaced. And a different color.

2002 Mustang GT ... Pretty much all the bolt-ons are covered. Really needs new front suspension to be tolerable on the road. The locker makes it a pain in the ass for daily driving. Great in a straight line, though.

And really, this is just the tip of the iceberg. Coming soon is a 04 Durango Hemi needing an engine swap and my boyfriend's 64 Galaxie.

Pics coming soon.

Those flange nuts are fucking abysmal to wrench on. Even when brand new they're a colossal pain. Any time that turbo's coming off I remove the head. But even worse is where the swingvalve bolts to the down pipe. You can't fit anything but a wrench in between the compressor housing and the downpipe flange. would have been so much easier to just thread the swingvalve than the nut/bolt setup.

Haven't sent off for the birth certificate yet, but so far all signs point to yes, which is kinda cool.

I'm thinking perhaps a bit of a mild "German look" project...

Found a nearly complete 25hp engine for the '52 Bug on Kijiji yesterday. Even has the correct intake manifold, which is apparently as rare as rocking horse poop.

I like the original crank pulley nut, too- that's an attachment for a hand crank.

It's been in a barn since the early 60s, the guy pulled it out of a Beetle to use in a dune buggy and never got around to it.

And the '52 itself is starting to look a bit more like a car.
