| | | Hi everyone! I'm new to the Bay area and to urban exporting, at least as an organized activity. In my hometown in Florida I've done plenty of exploring. We've discovered an abandoned mental institute, out of service for many years but still hooked up to power for some reason, really creepy place. We discovered a swimming pool filled in with driveway shells out in the woods. My best discovery so far was an abandoned mental institute. I was 16, barely able to drive and I never wanted to be at home with my parents, or with any of my friends parents for that matter. We needed a place to hang out. We drove down this curvy road near my friend's house leading to several medical facilities in a Hospice area. At the end of it was an unused and large building. We first found a small walkway leading into the woods and soon led to a dock sort of area overlooking a small lagoon. We hung out there several times, and got the urge to explore. We climbed a tree, shimmied across a long horizontal branch onto the roof of the unused building. I climbed down an access hatch on the roof, and opened a door inside for the rest of the group. As we explored, we found some scary things, like a bathtub ou could strap an unwilling and unclean person into, we found medical records, gurneys, lots of mold, and many other items of interest. This next part I almost feel silly telling. We found, in one room, a rectangle of pencil marks on the wall roughly 14 inches by 10 inches laid out landscape style. It was more filled in with scribble than empty, and the scribble was mostly straight lines, in many different directions. I kid you not, EVERY SINGLE PERSON we showed this too saw the same thing. Specifically, that was nothing, or nothing interesting. At least not while looking at it. Everyone, and I do mean EVERYONE, wh saw this experienced this: glance at the rectangle and look away, and the word HELP is visible, as big as the rectangle itself, but only for that moment. We did not tell people to look for the word HELP, or any other word. We just asked what they saw. To be fair, by EVERYONE I mean about 20 people. As the years went by, more and more people found out about the place, and every time we came back it was in worse shape. Eventually, they tore the whole building down. You would never know anything was ever there if you went there today. It's a sad thing for me, walking through this field where so many memories were built. I suppose that is the nature of UE, a thing which I didn't even realize existed in the solid form it does until very recently. I moved to Monterey as my first foray into the California lifestyle. I miss it. I live in Redwood City now, and it's not bad. In Monterey there were all kinds of cliffs, beaches, trails, and even abandoned military installments to explore. I never knew people did this kind of thing socially, I just brought friends along halfway willingly. I'm excited to get to know people in here and in my area and to get out and explore new places! Thank you to anyone who takes the time to read this.

That happened because you posted about it here.
| I am personally a fan of sarcasm, and I'm usually the one to point out the obvious to others. In light of such truths, I'll point out that you are making such a remark to someone introducing himself in the introductions thread. I didn't post about it here, or anywhere else. It happened because we shared it with some friends, who shared it with some friends, etc. But thanks anyway, and good effort towards the sarcasm, but when you want to state the obvious, be aware of the situation. EDIT: I'd like to point out a grammatical error on your part, Mutant. Below your avatar it states that you are not adverse to groups or anal. What you meant to say is that you are not AVERSE to these things. the_more_you_know.gif

But not much of a fan of satire, apparently.
| I certainly don't want my first bits of interaction on this site to get people mad at me, but I didn't really detect satire in your statement. I did detect incorrectness and haste. It would seem that anyone who read my post should be aware that I just got to the site, in fact most people shouldn't need to read a word of my post to realize this. It should be obvious just by where I posted it. As I indicated, I like getting along with people more than I like disagreeing with them. But if you poke fun at me, expect it back. If you were just trying to point out that it irritates you that everything posted on this site gets exploited to the point of losing interest in it yourself, this would have been better directed at someone who has spent enough time on this site to know that without making inferences. I honestly do mean you no disrespect, simply practicing my sarcasm. Murderously intelligent sounds like someone I could get along with. Nice to meet you, and I'm not being sarcastic now. =)

| | | Posted by Therrin .... had me fooled. I'm thinkin it's equal parts at the very least, and verbose to boot.
| Fair enough. How about this? A healthy debate is fun. And I don't usually just put up with someone saying something to me that is either rude or doesn't make sense. I am highly sarcastic, but I'm honestly a nice guy. There are places on the Internet that are much better for picking an argument than a social forum where I hope to meet locals and learn about my new home city. If provoked,I do not play dead. My goal here is to learn about something that has just been a hobby to me until I found out more people were involved in it, and to get to know some of the people and places that have made this subculture what it is. I, like any other human, might make occasional mistakes, I have my own opinions, and I have a lot to learn. I am not here to troll people, I have a genuine and lifelong interest in exploring abandoned structures. Anyone who wants to argue, I'll argue back because that's just who I am. But I am not looking for enemies or arguments.
