| | | I am quite excited to report that I did my first exploration today! I was traveling on Robinson Street in OKC and came upon a beautiful, partially boarded up building. I saw that one glass door was uncovered and decided to take a peek. The building was constructed sometime between 1914 and 1922. The details online vary so I'm not certain what's correct. It's been abandoned for approximately 20 years. The stained glass on the building is damaged, supposedly by the Oklahoma City bombing. The church is located just a few blocks from the site of the Murrah building. The church appears to be in very good condition, even though the balcony has been removed. The tile work and paneling are in excellent condition. The highlight of the building is the central dome. 1.

| | | Nice little find! Seems like a cute place. Though random balcony removal is random.

| | | An article I found online said that there were structural issues with the balcony that were caused by the bombing of the Murrah building. I don't know how reliable that information is, however.

| | | Thanks for the comments, y'all! I was so excited. It was exhilarating. I've been dying to do this for so long. It would have been nice to spend more time there but I was a little nervous. Also, I would have loved to take my time getting better photos. I can't wait for the next exploration! [last edit 4/14/2012 12:04 AM by MissTrixie49 - edited 1 times]

| | | Nice shots. I've shot there several times. Just FYI, I would never say how you got in there, that's the number one way people find out how to get in and then fires and vandalism follow. Having said that, here a few shots from about a year ago.
Oh, and the basement is well worth exploring, as it has a very interesting and old HVAC system that you can walk through.

| | | Thank you for the advice, I appreciate the feedback. I would hate for someone to vandalize or destroy this lovely building, and being new I can use all the feedback I can get.

Is it wrong for me to see a hidden Swastika in that?

| | | Actually, you are not wrong at all. Before the Nazi party and Hitler co-opted the swastika and turned it into a symbol of evil, the swastika was a generally recognized symbol of good luck.

I know it's true, but so sad. The reason this stuff fascinates me is because of all the beauty of these buildings. It's a shame to me that people just leave them behind as if they didn't have any value. But of course, that's why we are just taking pictures and not disturbing what we find. When I see a house in particular, I always think, "At some point, this was a brand new house. Someone moved in here and was so happy to be in this new, beautiful home. And then what happened? How did the center of someone's dreams for their life become derelict and abandoned?"
