| | | .... So, we've been having a little overhaul in the MSP community for the last few weeks/months, and there's been lots of ideas being thrown around, etc... and one of the things I wanted to do was a MSP newbie's ethics document that was aimed at noobs. Because we're under such different situations as most explorers out there, a lot of what we do doesn't match up with the popular UE attitudes elsewhere in the world, and that's why our actions and online personas can seem so strange to some of you. It's sorta longheld custom in MSP that once we see new guys consistently exploring on their own and not being idiots, we take them under our wing and try and teach them some ethics that help sustain our community. Doesn't mean we have to be best friends with them, but that usually ends up happening anyway. Most of these are things contained within a seasoned explorer would already know from experience, but because we have such a high percentage of new guys constantly coming in and we hate seeing the same noob mistakes being made over and over, I finally decided I wanted to put all the 'basics' we have into an easily consumable form, rather than word of mouth teaching like we've always had. The document is pretty much finished, might have one re-write to clean it up / fix minor details. I've already received great feedback from some of the younger guys around here, so I figured other new guys elsewhere could benefit from it as well. Again, this is written for Minneapolis exploring with a local community of 100-300 explorers (depending on how you define us), and written from the viewpoint of cave exploring rather than buildings. Enjoy. https://docs.googl...WDCX_D6jzgcSQ/edit
If you want to protect the locations you love to explore, don't talk about them online in public! If you want to make exploring friends, send people private messages! Meet up in real life! Get off the internet! Don't try to have a UER e-penis! You won't impress anyone! This especially means you, Minneapolis MN newbies! |

| | | Thanks again for writing this. Applicable far beyond MSP-- I think every exploring group, no matter how small, can learn lessons from what's happened/is happening. A+.

| | | As one of the newer explorers to the MSP scene I thank you for this. I learned a ton from what you wrote and it's nice to understand the workings of relationships among local explorers and on. Thanks!

i am the other yourself. "Have you been half asleep and have you heard voices? I've heard them calling my name. Is this the sweet sound that called the young sailors. The voice might be one and the same. I've heard it too many times to ignore it. It's something that I'm supposed to be." http://www.flickr....orers/collections/ |
