| | Enormous Downtown Squat. < on 12/28/2011 6:53 PM >
| | | I've looked at this building for years now, fearful of the occupiers and area. Finally, I got the guts and jumped in through a not so easily accessible window. What I found inside was glorious. Thousands of square feet, empty and hollow. Escalators have long since been abandoned and the elevators are now restrooms. I still haven't checked out the basement but will be doing so when I get some better equipment. The building in question.
These were taken with my Olympus e-510. you can find other pictures on flickr, some taken with my canon xti. http://www.flickr.com/photos/highxfive/

| | | Neat! No, I don't think they even have any of those anymore. There are still all these portable electrical switchboards on every floor, i'm sure they were connected in some way.

| | | I believe the lonestar gas building is being renovated. there are always crews working near there at least. Maybe they are working on the square white building next door, but i would love to check it out anyways! and yes, i believe its butler or butcher bros, i couldn't really read the marquee inside too well.

| | | Looks like just my kind of place. I'll have to go take a peek sometime. What was the junkie/hobo situation in there?

If it's Butler Brothers, then when I went at like 10am on a Thursday, there was easily 10-15 hobos and junkies hanging around outside and easily 20 more inside, they each had their little squat in a different room. Most are friendly, some are aggressive, but they didn't mess with me because I'm a big guy and had lots of friends. DEFINITELY not a place to go alone, ever, and it takes balls even in a group.

| | | That sucks because I am not a big guy. I'll have to see if I can get some people interested in going though. I love giant buildings like that.

I went in the middle of the night with just one other dude. I didn't encounter but 1 person, and they were on the roof sleeping in the building on top. Just bring cigarettes, bums love smokes. Also, the building is entirely empty, there really isn't anything to write home about inside. It's cool for roof shots of City Hall though.

| | | I haven't had a bad run in with anyone yet. I've been in alone as well. One guy actaully came up to me silently while on a platform above me, stared at me for a second and goes, "BOO!" then starts laughing manically and told me to have a good night. if anyone would like to go there, i'm always down.
