| | | So, as I am sitting here at work looking out the 7th story window all I can see is smoke ...though the fire is over 70mi away... Anyone near the fires currently? I am throwing around the idea of driving out and seeing them and am wondering if it is worth it. Input?

| | | Damn. I would definitely drive out there, if I was in the area right now. (Being cautious, of course).

Well they expect that the fires have a while to burn yet, you still have time to get here

| | | I'm sitting here at work in Wake Forest (just north of Raleigh more than 100 miles from the fire) and I've been smelling smoke for the last two days.

| | | Well, not sure what ones you are talking about, but the 22k acre one is here at home, and the local FDs that I work for are out there.

Is it worth seeing? I am in the Greenville, NC area and nothing is really that close to me. So, I dont want to drive an hour+ each way to see some smoldering trees...

| | | I'm in chapel hill but I am from Edenton, across the river from the fires. You could smell the smoke in the air as far as the Triangle and it was none too pleasant. I hadn't thought about getting out there to see the fires-- dang! Too late now.
