| | | Avery-Dennison (Ajax) < on 1/29/2011 1:57 PM >
| | | News Release January 17, 2011 Town moves forward on Fairall and Station Street Realignment Exterior demolition of former Avery-Dennison building set to begin this month The next phase in facilitating the Town of Ajax’s vision for a revitalized Downtown area begins this month with the demolition of the former Avery-Dennison building at 81 Dowty Road. The removal of this vacant facility makes way for the eventual realignment of Fairall and Station Streets, which will improve road traffic capacity and allow traffic to flow more efficiently through the Town’s central employment area. Interior demolition began earlier this month, with the exterior tear-down starting at the end of January and lasting until the end of March. Once demolition is complete, the realignment project can start, which will improve the Fairall Street/Dowty Road and Station Street/Dowty Road intersections and provide connectivity from the GO station to Harwood Avenue. Currently, there is a jog between Fairall and Station Streets, which contributes to traffic congestion at the two intersections. The project will extend Fairall Street through the land Avery-Dennison formerly occupied, and connect with Station Street. The end result will be improved traffic for local businesses and improved safety for pedestrians and cyclists. “This project is extremely important to the successful redevelopment of Downtown Ajax,” says Mayor Steve Parish. “Not only will it give better access to our central employment area, but by removing one large vacant building and forging a street through its property, we’re creating more employment lands for businesses to occupy. This is an opportunity to improve and create better lands for current and future businesses in Ajax.” The acquisition and demolition of the Avery-Dennison building, totalling $2.1 million, is partly funded by the Government of Canada, contributing up to $1.8 million to the project through the Community Adjustment Fund. The Town of Ajax will contribute the remaining project cost. This project supports the Town’s overall Downtown Ajax redevelopment plan – creating a unique, distinct, mixed-use urban space where people live, work, gather, visit, shop and play day and night. -30- Media Contact: Renée Horton, Senior Communications Officer, 905-619-2529, ext. 3325 |

| | | Aww man. I had a feeling they were going to tear this down. I noticed it's vacantness about two months ago, and I was planning on going to check it out in the near future. Now it's too late.

It's still standing. Only a fence restricts your access. But don't wait too long.

| | | I pass by this place when I go to work and wondered when it would get somebody curious. There's actually a few abandonment in this area, might be worth the trip.

I'm typing this with my middle fingers. I love the smell of mold in the fall. |

| | | It was empty for years. Didn't anyone else ever notice? I was in there in 2008 or early 2009.
