| | Christchurch, NZ < on 2/6/2011 4:06 AM >
| | | Hey all. Lurked for a long time, might have made a couple posts back in the day but I've decided to emerge from the shadows. As the title says, from Chch in NZ, most of my (limited) exploring has been local, and that's been limited to the fairly bland offerings around here. Used to be on slackninja.com (NZ UE site) before it was closed down, maybe some people from there have made a new home here? Anyway here are some exterior shots of some of the places I've been.
Feltex (now demolished).
Australia World College.
Heathcote Maltworks.
Fever Hospital.

Once things get political, they want us to stop shooting and start dancing. I don't dance. |

| | | Yeah was thinking the same, if the Earthquake ruined some good urbex spots!

the college building is nicely boarded up, reinforced with metal bars...in fact i think it's currently double boarded....after so many years of entry attempts they went to town on sealing it. that and it's opposite a police station, less than 50m away. beautiful building though.

| | | So long as he isn't in the eastern suburbs, he should be ok. Out west where I am is pretty much untouched. My house had a good shake, but there isn't a single crack. Nice to see another Christchurch explorer still kicking around!

| | | 5 months later... i'd actually forgotten about this site - since the quake, exploring seems pretty risky (who knows how safe the buildings here are!) so it hasn't really been a priority at all.
i'm fine, (obviously, lol) everyone i know is fine. nykon, i live in burwood, so eastern enough to have issues initially but we were back up and running within a couple weeks. the house itself is gonna be demolished, but it's liveable (to the point where you can't tell there's any issues with it) for now, so life as per normal.

| | | I'd be careful doing urbex here for the next year, people won't take too kindly if they catch you, plus as chuckles already said, you don't know how safe some of the buildings are. If you're not adverse to a bit of risk, a year from now will probably be okay for anything which is still standing. There will still be some structural risk, but the worst buildings will be gone, and the whole stigma of being in EQ-damaged buildings will have largely worn off. I managed to get into the CBD cordon (legally, before you ask) a little while back, it sure is a mess. I'm not sure I want to post pics as they are no different than any that have been passed around in common media. If you look at some of Ross Becker's galleries you'll get a good idea of what it's like. http://picasaweb.google.com/RossBeckerNZ Do any of the other chch people here know what has happened to the bunkers up at godley head?
