| | Winter Clothing < on 12/16/2010 6:36 PM >
| | | This is an activity that can generate a lot of heat, if one sweats one would LOSE heat rapidly. I am wondering what would be the best winter setup. On longer trips it is possible that if you sweat, you die. I currently sport: a HIGH VIS jacket shell w/ ski tags (does not look suspicious) a poly shirt (heats well at the beginning yet is not too thick.) a sweat absorbing shirt, under armor like material (so that the sweat goes away from the body) fleece lined jeans (insulated, innermost layer does not roll up) gold toed socks (thin for most of the foot but is dual layered at the toe and heel) rough leather hiking shoes (moisture proof, does not restrict movement) One of those trapper hats with the ear panels(a toque if I am biking) A headband (I place it around my neck instead of a scarf) Gripped gloves (they are a bit thin but I can climb like spiderman with them) another thing I do is that I tuck my pants into my socks so that snow cannot get up my legs or down my ankles). et vous? If it looks like a wolf, acts like a wolf, and howls like a wolf, it's probably an asshole.

| | | Uhh. I just rock... +a pair of jeans (flannel lined if it's really cold) +Long john bottoms. I've got a few sets of varied thickness. I wear whatever based on the temps. +Regular socks +Combat boots. The ones I have right now have got a decent amount of insulation. +T-shirt +Long john/knit shirt if it is really cold. +Hoodie +Lined leather jacket That's about it for me. Oh, and a hat. Could be cowboy. Could be knit. Could be fleece. Depends on the weather and my mood. I stick with what by Drill Sgts said. Light and layered. Depending on how active your going to be, your body temp is going to fluctuate. So it's best to have alot of lighter layers that way you can take them off and store em without them weighing alot.

She actually posted such a photo last year but changed the server-side image later on. It was reported cached copies were going for $34.99.

I don't know why I'm just now noticing this but, if you sweat you die? I've been in 150 degrees and I've been in negative temperatures. I don't remember anyone ever dying from it. Now granted if your sweating and not drinking any water, then yes. But I would like to think that's common sense. Maybe not. ::shrugs:: Also, please tell me where I can get gloves that allow me to climb like Spiderman. I have been looking for these since I was like 5. Also, can you get a line on some web shooters? I'm not wanting to swing around or anything but I am lazy and would like to use them to get the remote control without having to get up from the couch.

Only if you want to see me topless in drains. For winter clothing, it's a lot like a hike except that you stand a good chance of getting out of the wind. Mind the waterproofs and the windproofs, dress in layers, and leave room in your bag to take off outer layers.

While staying hydrated is important I believe he is talking about the increased risk of hypothermia. Allowing yourself to sweat in cold temperatures can be very dangerous and deadly. This is why layered clothing is so important because you can shed layers during periods of activity to keep cool and avoid sweating.

You should make sure you have your "fence climbing tools". I want to see that get more mechanized. (If you don't know what I'm talking about, let me know. It's great for a giggle.)
