| | | Forum Readstates are back for everyone < on 12/12/2010 6:15 PM >
| | | Hi Everyone, After much soul-searching, I've decided to bring back the 'advanced' forum readstates for all users. This means UER will track which topics you've read. I got a lot of complaints about this change, and a few people pointed out that the biggest drain on the resources is the Location Database. So, that will be kept premium-only for the advanced readstates. So, here's what you need to know:
- All of the new readstates options will be staying.
If you don't like the readstates or you want to use a more manual style, you can do that now, using the new settings.
- Mode 5: Advanced will now work for all users, premium or not, in the forums.
Just like it did before. It does operate slower than the other options, so if speed is a concern for you, just go ahead and switch to one of the other modes.
- The Location Database will still require Premium Membership if you want Advanced Readstates
Since this is the biggest database drain, and since the DB only gets bigger, I'm making the advanced readstates a premium-only feature for the DB. Premium membership is quite cheap now, just $25 a year, so if you really want them, they're cheap now.
Thanks for all the suggestions and comments! -av [last edit 12/12/2010 6:16 PM by Avatar-X - edited 1 times]

I see this now:
I think Advanced Readstates work, but it's an odd nagbox to have.

| | | This is a good decision I think, but I want to commend you on your flexibility throughout the discussion of the changes. The read states are one of the most impressive bits of the system, and I'm glad that everyone who wants to will be able to make use of them. I can't really do it right now, but remind me in the New Year (I guess I can rely on the system to do that regardless : P ) and I'll make a donation.

Av, thank you! the initial changes that you made terribly impacted my(and I'm sure many others) forum viewing experience. I rely on read states as I view the forum almost exclusively by "new posts". *I did not read this thread so I apologize if this has been suggested* I would suggest increasing the monthly fund drive from its current $100 to $125 to cover the space that the read states eats up. again, thank you!

Agreed I went back to option 5 and now the entire DB is gray. Now idea what I have and have not seen now.

I talked with Av via PM, and he said that the DB readstates are going to be wiped soon, but he didn't give a specific date. [last edit 12/30/2010 10:13 AM by Shawn W. - edited 1 times]

| | | Is it possible to make a one-time $25.00 US donation in order to get LDB read states for a year, rather than subscribing indefinitely and paying via echeck?

Yep, it's exactly what I did. Bottom option on the donate page.

Perhaps I am doing this incorrectly, but when I go to the Donation page, the bottom button is a Subscribe button, which leads to an indefinite annual subscription payable only by echeck.
