| | Anyone got anything on the Nike site in Austin? < on 11/4/2010 9:57 PM >
| | | Recently came across a Nike site in Austin, haven't gotten around to exploring it and I'm a bit wary of doing so. It's not in a prime location. Does anyone know anything about this place, or as anyone actually been there?

| | | I had heard that it was owned by the Ensign-Bickford Aerospace and Defense company, but I guess it's changed to safer hands since. It's the Elroy site I'm interested in, more specifically the cluster of buildings across the road from the launch pads which I assume to be the barracks and the mess hall. Did you get around to those? [last edit 11/5/2010 1:52 AM by ~Nin - edited 1 times]

| | | sure didn't, that's the radar/control site actually, but that may have been where the barracks and mess halls where located. we where too exhausted from the 100+ degree heat after walking around the launch area. and its very out in the open. It didn't look like it was occupied but we didn't try it so I'm not sure. all the radar/control sites Ive looked into have had people living in them, but this might be the one that doesn't! Edit: also, you should come to the Austin meet & greets, its always just me and Cazybeast2. we need more Austin area people to show up! [last edit 11/5/2010 2:22 AM by Superlocrian - edited 1 times]

| | | Got a few, lighting was terrible with the sun at the angle that it was. Here's the outside of the mess hall, I think the power station is the building in the far right.
Here's the dining area inside
Some peeling paint
Posing next to a lonely chair in the kitchen area.
We could be totally wrong about the identities of the buildings.

| | | We went to Elroy yesterday. Found the road to the NIKE site. We were apprehensive about opening the yellow gate and driving in. Would love to check it out with more experienced explorers. Who is down?????

| | | This is an awesome place. I would love to go back anytime. Anyone know how to act around a donkey? We met the guard donkeys!
But not before we met the coyote...
Oh did I mention the rattlesnake?

| | | Good photos, thanks for posting them. So, the Elroy launch and control sites are pretty easy to access? The guard donkeys don't bother you too much?! What about the other Austin site on Bee Cave Road? Anyone been there before? Looks like the control site is used by the Texas Army National Guard. What about the lauch site? -D

| | | Have not been to Bee Cave Rd Site. As for Elroy, Very easy to access. I am not sure how to handle Donkeys, so I pretty much was run off by them.

| | | I just drove by there but didn't go in. The yellow gate was locked and the control site was way in the open. I didn't drive into the neighborhood surrounding it so unless there's a decent place to park around there I didn't see a good place. The street these are on seemed surprisingly busy for being so far out of town too. I'd be down for trying again though.

Sorry to hear that. Looking at the Google maps there does seem to be quite a few homes very close to the control site. Was the gate open there? Any "No Trespassing" signs posted? The launch site however looks more secluded but a locked gate does suck...
