| | The Igloo < on 9/9/2010 5:07 AM >
| | | Just south of Cantwell Alaska and Denali National Park is a giant Igloo. Built in the 70's as a hotel it was never completed for different rumored reasons, too few fire escapes, ran out of money, etc, etc. Ive driven past it for nearly 10 years and always wanted to see what it was like inside. Well it happened this summer, the door was open, middle of the morning. Whatever the reason, I had to check it out. Wouldnt you know it, my camera died. Still, I was able to go inside. Not much but bare stud walls, some vandalism, and wire mesh to keep people who break in confined (my best guess). Enjoy the crappy pictures.

| | | Nice! I always wanted to do that when I was up there. I heard the owner of the nearby gas station would let people look around if they asked. Never had time to stop in, we were usually trying to beat our prior speed record between Fairbanks and Anchorage without being pulled over

| | | I think there's actually some spray-crete igloos outside of Fairbanks in the style of Xanadu. I used to drive by them on the way to Chena Hot Springs. Don't think they're abandoned. And what ever happened to the mini-space-needle that was in that dude's backyard on Farmer's Loop Road? Lol, against all odds, I'm finding myself missing Fairbanks

| | | That's just way too cool. Of course, the fact that my dream is to build and live in a geodesic dome does explain my attraction to that place. Thanks for the interesting location

| | | There's one like this in Kenai, but it's a church.... Crazy shit
"Government is not reason; it is not eloquence; it is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master." "There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible to live without breaking laws." |
