| | Security Guard Assaulted At The Old Halifax Country Rehabilitation Center < on 8/18/2010 3:17 PM >
| | | http://thechronicl...cotia/1197341.html Last article on the page. "RCMP seek help in case of security guard assault RCMP are asking for the public’s help as they investigate a violent assault on a security guard at the old Halifax County Rehabilitation Centre on Bissett Road in Cole Harbour. The guard was patrolling the vacant property Monday at about 10 p.m. when he saw four young people at the west corner of the building who were not supposed to be there, said RCMP Cpl. Joe Taplin. When he approached the boys, he was hit in the side of the head with a rock. He fell to the ground, and the youths kicked him in the chest about four times, before fleeing the area. The guard then walked to a nearby residence for help. Taplin said the man received minor injuries in the attack and didn’t require medical attention. Anyone with any information about the assault is asked to contact any RCMP office, Halifax Regional Police or Crime Stoppers anonymously by calling 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.crimestoppers.ns.ca."
This incident is terrible. Obligatory 'these people give Urban Exploring a bad name' post. I wouldn't recommend exploring the site for awhile, now that the guards have a personal vendetta against explorers. [last edit 8/18/2010 3:33 PM by Evasion - edited 1 times]

| | | i'll say the same as i did in the location's thread.... Yea, a security guard with nothing but a cell phone approaches 4 illegal trespassers at 10 at night. Not a very smart friggin security guard if you ask me. But then, he is a rent a cop... and they're usually not the brightest people on this side of the grass.

| | | Its easy money with little work involved. I'd do it if I was ever looking for a job, there's usually a ton of hours, and half decent pay (depending on the site) to just sit on your ass for the most part. Probably should of called the rcmp instead of approach them, but I guess he wasn't expecting that to happen. If I was caught by a guard up there, I'd likely just apologize and leave the site.

Yea, id probably be like "whoops didn't know. where am i anyway?" But yea, he should of called the rcmp, because thats what they're supposed to do, they're not actually supposed to make contact with people in situations like that. they're just there as a deterrent.

| | | This is the reason I think security guards should carry pepper spray or mace with them. Other than the thrill of it, those kids had no reason to assault him. And if it were me, I'm sure I'd have some sort of PDW with me. [last edit 8/18/2010 9:40 PM by nootz - edited 1 times]

I was thinking more like a paintball pistol. Pellets/BB's have the potential to be lethal.

| | | How could a security guard even be surprised by such a reaction? Four teenagers, abandoned building, big dude approaches them in an authoritative manner. One of them freaks out, and the other 3 just do whatever comes naturally. Note that he received minor injuries before they fled. This proves that it wasn't a premeditated or malicious act, and I would hesitate to call it an assault. This was four scared teenagers and he should have seen it coming.

| | | I'm not too sure how accurate this story is since it tells us that he walked to a nearby residence for help. Wouldn't he not only have a cellphone, but a security radio? Why didn't he just call for help? Sure, one of those kicks could have rendered him confused or broke his radio but I'm willing to bet that there's more to the story than that. The police report should be out tomorrow and I'll post it when I see it. Sure, It might not have been smart to approach them but since their not actually allowed in the asbestosis filled building, it would have been easier to turn them way then than to call the RCMP and see if the RCMP can threaten them out of the building. They would probably just hide, like most youth would.

| | | honestly, dude was just probably trying to do his job and these kids are most likely the ones who busted out all the windows of this place. he probably thought nothing of it, as i'm sure a lot of people head up and there walking around and he's asked them to leave, as his job requires, no harm done. so he probably thought the same of these kids... it sucks that this happened. if any of us were caught on site, i'm sure we would have much more appreciated the guard saying, hey, you're not supposed to be here, rather than them calling the RCMP and them sending 4 cars, a couple vans and a bunch of dogs like what has happened to some members here in the past. as much as i'm not a fan of security, i think having one guard in such a secluded area at night, is really a not great idea of the security firm.

| | | no matter who liked it or who didnt...deserve it or not...smart or not...again bringing a lot of heat on the community. We explore and we search we dont destroy and hurt thats bullshit...sure the guard was dumb but he was only there because of everyone being heat bags out there and smashing things up like friggin idiots.I know people i cant take exploring because every time we get somewhere the wanna smash something or be loud or just be an idiot...so ..in short...if you really like exploring and love the thrill of the sneak not the chase and bullshit...then quit bringing these heat bags if you know any.I hate it most when i find something or somewhere and when i get there its all busted and shits all broke inside and painted all over...i like to leave my mark to but a sticker or a tag, check the place out leave it for someone else...i said it about the church in shannon park to...bullshit...a bunch of heat bags not part of our community id like to think and its what leads to security guards and the police and 90 percent of the heat we get as explorers.
