| | | Grand Rapids today... < on 5/25/2010 2:14 AM >
| | | Ok, I know this is against the rules, but here's the deal; I grew up in GR, Grandville specifically, but I've lived in Alaska for the last two years. There's a ton of awesome stuff up here, don't get me wrong, but I miss my roots. I'm coming back to my homeland in a few weeks without my kids in tow, and more than anything I'd love to get a long overdue URBAN E fix... problem is, all my old favorites are unavailable (Division hotel(s), Cherry St. school, etc.) or demolished (3 mile farmhouse, railroad bridge at Kent trails, etc.) So I was wondering if someone could clue me into something new. Of course I'm not asking for an address and an entrance, just a hint, or a picture... something to chase. That would be so so awesome, just think about it, k? Please?

| | | So many views and so little reply... In hindsight I hate that I even posted this, I don't usually pay any attention to those who post requests. But come on guys, help a girl out. I'm only gonna be in town 4 days, not very much time for scouting, you know?

| | | Well you guys suck. 94 views and only one response? Lame. That's ok though, I've got a man on the ground doing some recon in anticipation of our upcoming adventure. At least wish me luck from here on in if you've nothing to add!

| | | They really tore down a lot of stuff in the past year. They ruined Kent trails. I used to like going back there.

Well, forgive me for intruding, but the attitude you're showing in your posts aren't really helping you, you know. Do you really expect to have posted what you posted and all of a sudden get a ton of responses? Go out, take a half a day, do some leg work, and I guarantee you'll be able to find something on your own. Make an effort. Also: absolutely nothing new has happened in GR (its my home town, lived there ofr 20 years), aside from some more urban renewal Downtown. Just go out and drive in the areas that worked for you before, and see what you can find. [last edit 6/1/2010 1:18 PM by Liska - edited 1 times]

No need for forgiveness! Did you notice the multiple methods I tried to use to elicit a response? I started with reason, then a bit of pleading, then throwing the "girl" thing out there, then anger, which finally got your attention! I know, I'm being lazy and breaking the rules, but I'm really not going to have any extra time while I'm there so I thought I'd just give it a try. Why not? And even though it didn't yield any helpful response, at least someone finally said something! This site has always been a useful tool for me to find so many things across this country, so of course I'm gonna see if there's anything noteworthy you guys know of. And of course now I think it's funny that I'm drawing a little feistiness out of you...

| | | For the others; thank you for the well wishes, and yes, they did totally ruin Kent trails, at least that's how it sounds... Tragedy indeed. Anyone ever go to that sweet party spot on the beachside bluff in South Haven before they built houses on it? My BF back then lost her virginity there, and they ruined that too! We'll always have the memories and pictures of these places I suppose, but seriously, why did they think that was a good idea? Oh, I get it now, Millennium Park, huh?

| | | Post trip followup: Turns out there's a ton of stuff to see in GR these days, and in all of my previously visited areas. People have just gone lazy on me.

| | | I'm viewing this, but I'm from Ohio and don't know anything about Grand Rapids. Sorry :/ Visit Ohio and I'll have a bunch of recommendations for ya! Otherwise, good luck.

| | | Let us know how your visits go. I typically only get to GR for the airport, and I see a lot of development from the roads, but I'm certainly there must be some special secrets, just like there are everywhere...
