| | | Considering I was just at the Opryland Hotel not even a month ago...these pictures are quite eerie indeed.

| | | since i think it's a pretty profitable hotel (i could be wrong?), they'll probably have it fixed up and operating again as soon as they possibly can after the waters retreat. that is kinda creepy, though... floods are devastating. =\

| | | I stayed there a couple of times. Awesome hotel, shame to see it that way. I think I'm going to have to change my anniversary plans.

| | | From what I understand, the hotel won't reopen until the beginning of 2011. There isn't another hotel in Nashville that features the amount of meeting room/banquet space along with the number of hotels, so this is a huge blow to the economy. The hotel where I work is about seven miles from the Opryland, and we've lost three fairly big groups already. Also, there are crews there all the time, so it's not abandoned. Dammit.

| | | That's incredible, and yeah, eerie to see it so heavily flooded. That majorly sucks that they're going to be closed for that long. Something that has been on my mind for a while is, whatever happened to the Opryland amusement park? Has it been demoed or is it still up?

| | | Opryland was flatened and turned into a parking lot and mall (Opry Mills). The only portion remaining from old Opryland is a tiny portion of a white water rafting ride (Grizley River Rampage). It is just outside the Opryland Hotel.

Yeah, that was a big place. I did some work there a couple years ago when I worked for an AV company. Their Delta Ballroom holds 7000. They have a riding vacuum!

| | | Weird. An old friend of mine just friended me on Facebook. I knew she was living in Nashville, and had a successful business there. We were never exactly close, because she always seemed a little too prim and proper for my tastes, but she was nice. Anyway I had a kind of WTF moment when I saw her status message: hard hat. check. gloves. check. face mask. check. boots. check. protective goggles. check. thru 3 guard gates. check. on our way into opry mills. wow. But, unlike a lot of my other friends who occasionally post similar messages, she was going in to look at her store which had been under 10 feet of water. It's funny how that same post could mean a totally different experience, depending on who posted it.

Which by the way, as boring as it is, appears somewhat interesting to us UE types in the sea of Opry commercialism. It's easily explorable, although I have not yet.
