| | I want this place... < on 9/21/2009 2:52 AM >
| | | I can't imagine what would make a person walk away from this, and even with the weather getting in it's still amazingly solid, no mushy floors inside. And so beautiful. Jess and I walked in after parking down the road because the driveway was blocked with logs (little ones), so we parked where the van wouldn't get hit from traffic coming either way and walked. Next time we'll take the car and move the logs... As we're walking up the driveway, talking at normal volume we see at least two girls (I think Jess saw two before I saw the second two) goin top speed gettin the hell outta Dodge!! To their credit, it doesn't seem as though they were there doing damage and they certainly got their exercise! Here's a few from the gallery... And this place has the best outhouse ever... lol

| | | CowboyPenner was the one who found this puppy back in 05. I would have never found it just regular scouting as it sits hidden deep in the woods. When I was last there it was sealed tight. I guess the local kids have created some PoEs... Nice pics, justakitty!

At least four if my eyes do not deceive me. Nice find, you have to love the workmanship with the woodwork. [last edit 9/21/2009 3:48 AM by Intrinsic - edited 1 times]

| | | And I only just realized I didn't give credit to Fedge for telling me about this one. Thank you!!
It is a beautiful little place. Other than the windows (which really suck) there is so little damage to the structure. I was shocked that with the windows smashed out, they left the glass topped dining room table alone. The walls themselves are getting a little needy for work too, there's spots where you can see through the logs to the outside, but that's just a maintenance thing with log homes. Jess was just standing there at one point going "do you know what I would give to have this??" and wondering what on Earth would make someone walk away from something that was so obviously loved and never come back.
OK, so does anyone know anything about that last pic in the series? It looks like a graveyard. It's not visible on sat images, and getting to it is going to be a b*tch. I love old graveyards....

| | | Pics of the scary bridge. My car started to sink into the bridge as I drove over it. I gingerly back up and saved myself from a potentially dangerous situation and a certainly embarrassing one.

| | | Oh WOW is right! I want it, too...it's gorgeous. It is really hard to imagine someone walking away from this, or dying and no one in the family coming to claim it (or fight other family members for it, even!)

Yeah, it sure does look like an old, abandoned, forgotten graveyard. I love 'em too! But that sure is alot of wilderness between you and it, and that probably will make you want to check it out even more. It's obviously in your blood!
And Fedge, I have nothing but the utmost respect for you, your galleries are amazing, but dude, seriously, you tried to cross that bridge with you car...?
Kudos to both of you!!!

| | | It looked OK from the driver's seat but once I was on top of it I felt that sinking feeling. I carefully backed up and all was well. But at one point that bridge was used for daily crossings. It's practically rotted out now though. Don't give ME the face palm, grrr!

| | | Nice pics and hot location, I've already moved in. And that bridge is scary, being over one similar in a small truck, hold ya breath style.

I think I might go talk to the only house near it. It would still be a bit of a trek to get to the graveyard, but if they can give any background info and a way of getting there without going through the marshes that are between the road and the site I'd be terribly grateful... I would lay bets that the girls we saw hightailing it out of the log cabin site live at the house where I wanna go knocking... otherwise I can't imagine where the heck they came from considering the direction they ran. I don't think that graveyard is totally forgotten, mostly, but not totally. When I look at the two pics I took, full size, I can zoom in and look a fair bit closer and there are paths between that seem to be mown. The stones look to be surrounded by weeds and grass, but someone is mowing in there somewhat. Hope to get out there again in the next couple weeks or so...

| | | Hey cool little place there. Looks like it would have been quite the place to live and/or vacation. It has seen better days, but as others have mentioned it's held up for the most part. Thanks for the pictures and writeups.
BTW - I'm surprised fedge didn't go all Dukes of Hazzard on that bridge.

| I wanted to. The driveway is pretty long so I probably could have jumped the creek. Might have been tough going the other way as there isn't enough roadway to "get up to 88".

| | | That's not a graveyard Kitty, I spoke to a lady walking down the road, that this place is on, and she told me that it is in fact a paintballing field and those things that look like gravestones are barriers to hide behind. The farmhouse out front of where this is are the owners. They used to rent it out for groups etc to come and paintball. I thought it was a graveyard too when I first seen the white units from a distance.

| | | WOW, I would've thought graveyard looking at it! But what you said makes more sense because it's not on the satellite images and it's fairly easy so spot graveyards on those. Thank you much miss foliage!!!
