| | | Alright, I've been lurking for quite some time, but figured I'd finally post a few pics. This was a recent (last weekend) trip to this orphanage. It's been closed since 1994, but I think the guy who takes care of the place lives in a house on the same property and keeps the place up really well. He's also super nice and let's people into the main building to take pics. Taken with a Canon 350D, Sigma 10-20mm, and Canon 50mm f1.8 II. If anybody here is in central Louisiana, let me know, because I've been looking for ue buddies! 1

It's not totally abandoned, no. There is one guy who takes care of the property like keeping the grass mowed because it's in town, but it's not being used for anything. I think they have thought about opening other facilities there, but nothing has taken hold. I thought it would be difficult to get into because all the doors are sturdy and stay locked but the guy told me about one door that has been kicked in so many times he doesn't bother with replacing it anymore, so it stays unlocked!

Thanks! I've known about this place for about a year, but I always thought it was still in use. Finally checked it out last weekend and spent a couple of hours there. Ya, let me know the next time you're in LA and we'll meet up! Maybe you can tell me how exactly to get to the Pea Farm, heh.. I know the general area, but that's it. Some kids have turned the Pea Farm into their own personal paintball warzone. They even have lanterns set up throughout the place for night games. It's still a cool place just because of the location, but the actual building is trashed.

Ugh, that sucks. I saw something similar going on in a few abandoned ward buildings on the campus of the state hospital in Pineville.. paint ball splotches all over the place, but it wasn't too bad.

| | | Thanks, guys! There aren't too many larger places around here, but I've found a few schools and plenty of empty houses. Need to take another trip up to Shreveport soon, and to Baton Rouge. And ya, I plan on posting more often. I'll try to get some pics together from past trips and post them soon.
