| | | Nismo's comment not withstanding... Because of New York City and Long Island, the rest of New York enjoys pretty much some of the highest insurance rates in the nation. On top of that, our registrations are every two years to the tune of $80. The annual 'safety' inspections charge $21. And then there is the Law Enforcement surchage built into your insurance, then there is the sales tax, then there is the $35 fee to title a car. Downstate, during an inspection, the car isn't just plugged in the DMV database, they do a complete emissions test. I know for the rest of you in other places, this doesn't sound all that. What chaps everyone's ass was the fact that we had the Liberty plates from 1984-85 until 2000-2001... and it was fine. We got the Empire State plates and that would be great. All this is new plate thing is a chance for the state to make an additional $129 million at the already overtaxed citizen's expense. We DON'T need new plates. I could rail on and on and on about Paterson, but this is about cars.
