| | | Again... Just driving around on some backroads... We passed this house twice before I caught a glimpse of the roof sticking out from the overgrown vegetation. There is an old van that has been completely reclaimed by vines. It looks like a farmer is using the land around the house to graze cattle on, but there were no other houses nearby.

| | | Now I am all curious... The last time I was driving backroads in Cowan my Garmin couldn't find the roads that I was on, it thought I was driving through fields and kept screaming at me to "find the highlighted route!"... So, I am sure if the roads aren't even technically marked then there must be tons more to find... I am hoping that maybe when the Fall progresses I will be able to make it deeper into more of the wooded areas. PS- I beat a quick retreat from the above house when I noticed that I was literally covered in ticks... I know that makes me a priss, but oh well. I despise those things. 8-)

| | | No, I'd say being covered in ticks is one of the most legitimate reasons to beat a quick retreat, flail your arms wildly, and/or scream like a little girl with a frog down the back of her shirt.

I used to not worry about ticks. That lead to me getting lyme disease this summer. So now I do. I mean not excessively. But I check for them much more often and more carefully.

| | | Hey, just looked at all your posts, good stuff! Always fun spending days driving through rural areas. About a month ago, I was exploring back in the woods, and as I was leaving, looked down and noticed I had THOUSANDS of tiny ticks on me. They were all smaller than the head of a pin. I was still picking them off me 2 days and 5 showers later. I think they only bit me about 15-20 times though. Luckily I didn't get sick. Since then, I've invested in a bottle of insect repellent with the highest concentration of DEET I could find!

| | | This was the 1st year that I have EVER had a problem with ticks... And that is saying a lot considering that I was raised in the sticks and was always rooting around outside. ...my poor husband... For a week after going to that place and getting swarmed by those nasty things, every single time I had an itch I would freak and make him check to be sure it wasn't another damned tick. 8-) When it starts getting warm again, I am just going to drench myself in Deet, too.
