| | Polyglot House (Noelville, ON) < on 8/27/2009 3:50 AM >
| | | This was one of those locations where photography definitely improved the overall post-look of the location. Shortly after arriving at this location I had to take a look around to be sure I'd even had the right place - it looked, just so bad. It was a little more worse for wear than I'd imagined, it was smaller than I'd imagined, and all of the artifacts were basically scattered in one room in one huge mess. To top it off, there was a basketball sized hole in the floor where the artifacts were and I wasn't about to test my luck on the floor. Rewind to 30 minutes earlier... Intrinsic pulls up to Polygot house and proceeds to take some exterior shots. The front of the house had a piece of wood blocking the door but just to the left there is (or was) a large framed window. The glass panes are on the ground and the roof is collapsing, thus, it's basically an open hole in the porch area. He proceeds to climb into the window successfully. A few photos are taken and then, CRASH!, he falls right through the rotten floor and onto the ground under it. It was a short fall but it was scary nonetheless. Intrinsic then realizes, fuck, where is his camera? He looks around... no camera. He looks in the hole, no camera. He looks outside, no camera. The next 30 minutes are spent peering under the floor, lifting up rotten pieces of wood and scraping aside shingles that have also fallen from the crumbling roof into the abyss below. About to go home, cameraless, and pissed off... he finally spots it outside in some grass. It had actually flown out of my hand and out of the window (you're mentally picturing it right now of course). Bloody hell! For the beer bottle enthusiast (such as myself) there are TONS of empty (and full) stubby bottles such as Labatt's 50, Black Label and some beer I've never heard of. Ya ya I know, ethics... A newspaper dated back to 1971 while the most current was 1996 (13 years ago). Attempts have been made to secure the home but at this point it is rotting away to the point where the rear of the house has collapsed. Nature is reclaiming this one. A big thank you to Umbra for giving me the location of this place. 1.

I have a collection of about 300 bottles, many of them stubbies. Some of the ones in the Polyglot house were still full but looking very moldy. In my 10 or so years of exploring, I've always expected to come across at least one location with old stubbies inside but never did, until this time. Not that I'd have taken them, but they go hand in hand with the 1970's newspapers and such. I owe you a moldy beer Mr. Umbra [last edit 8/28/2009 11:30 PM by Intrinsic - edited 1 times]

| | | Holy what a story Iam so glad that you were not injured and you found your camera. Falling through a floor is a huge fear of mine. Great pics! Those stubbies are way cool, I love finding stuff like that.

| | | Oh, the old Latvian newspapers and book in Cyrillic are pretty interesting. My mom's family is Latvian too, a tiny minority in Canada after thousands of them were forced to leave their home country during WWII.. wonder who used to live there...

| | | that is a pretty cool find. you can tell just by he chimney that the roof is just itching to collapse. the fear of falling through the floor is what keeps me from going alone. good thing it was a minor drop, and you found your camera

I prefer to go alone, less crap to put up with and no time restrictions. My fear isn't so much floors but hornets and bees. I'm always looking for them the moment I enter a house (door frame, walls, steps). And while it definitely was a cool find (especially those stubby bottles, I've always expected to find some one day) the credit must go to Umbra for he found it first and shared it with the others.
