| | Found a creepy Warehouse in Ottawa, ON. < on 5/20/2009 12:03 PM >
| | | This thing is pinnacle of creepiness! It is made almost entirely of corrogated iron, but has brand new doors, very odd... Anyways, it's got a few hoppers or whatever they call them out front, and a whole bunch of stuff around back, including 2 cars and play structure parts. Although i've been here with my friend many times over the past few months, I recently went back and got the spiel about trespassing, private property and going to jail (the usual speach). Apparantly police have been going around there a lot lately to try and catch whoever's vandalising the place. And supposedly there was a big drug bust there too. Also there's a whole line of freight cars out front that get changed every now and again. At the moment they're black open-top container cars, relatively boring compared to the tankers that are usually there Here's the pics I took. A few of them have my friend in front.

| | | Only went the once, and that's as far as I went. Hard to sneak past a trailer park.

| | | I used to work in the Bell Mews building, we'd go taking walks back there on our lunch time, If I remember correctly, the inside is pretty empty, or at least it was back then (early 2000s)

| | | The owners of the property are looking to develop that area. I think it's actually owned by the Bellwood trailer park folks. The building was originally Steenbakkers. Not sure what they did, but they had a railway siding. The platform is still there at the back of the property.

| | | Isn't the rail line the one with the abandoned cars (at least I thought they were abandoned) near Moody Drive in Bells Corner.

Yep. The railway never abandons serviceable cars... they are just in storage. CN has very little capacity to store surplus equipment in it's yards, so any available track on the system will become a storage location. A lot of the cars in storage in the Ottawa area look like tankers. They are actually cars used to carry rolls of sheet metal. With the downturn in car sales, less sheet metal is required, so off the cars go into storage. The tops are lifted off the top of the cars with a hoist. The rolls sit sideways in a trough along the bottom of the car. This prevents the coils from rolling and shifting, which they often did in the old flatbed cars.

<foamer mode> Steel coil cars (for hauling steel, that is) CN just got a whole wack of new GTW ones from NSC Hamilton. The cars pictured by the o.p. are gondolas, used for any bulk commodity that can be loaded & exposed to the elements (pipes, steel slabs, scrap iron, etc). It looks like the side of the shed where the overhang/loading dock was was where the old railway siding went to. </foamer mode>
Keep it fuzzy. |
