Bye for now.

| | | Posted by yokes You've inspired me to stay overweight. I thank you.
| Here's a kicker. Lately, my ankle was flaring and I thought it was the chipped bone acting up. The difference was, most of my foot was swollen and painful along the top near the big toe. On the third flare up, I finally got it checked. Gee, it turned out to be a mild form of gout. I know someone who has it and I'm not looking forward to it. Also, checked my weight, it actually went up (over 300 again *sh*t!*). Fortunately, the rest of the blood work has come up negative for diabetes. Also, the meds are keeping my blood pressure relatively normal which is a relief. No wonder I've been extremely sluggish lately. I figured that the last site I worked at, had no patrols. I just sat at the desk every day. Well, I'm up now and forcing myself to be more mobile. Damn, very discouraging as I had actually lost weight earlier this year.

| Rain that sucks. I had the same symptoms awhile back. I just figured it was because I work 12 nights on concrete. I went to the doc because it got to the point that I could barely get my boots on. I'll be damned it was the gout. I feel you pain that crap hurts!

| I ended up buying expensive new boots for work. Simplest thing is usually the answer in my case. It was my work shoes causing a lot of the swelling problems I've been having lately because of their weight and lack of support. I worked 2 double shifts last week and my ankles swelled up to three times their normal size from the oxford type steel toe shoes I was wearing, so after two years, I ended up going back to Magnums. Except instead of the 70 dollar ones...I ended up buying 120 dollar ones because they're not steel toe, they're ASTM approved composite (carbon fiber) toes that handle the same compression and impact weights as steel. So after this realization, I have to replace my sneakers too. My sandals are still okay, they're just really starting to get comfortable and weren't the cause of the swelling, but now, I need sneakers and that won't be cheap either. I just wish I could wear cheap shoes. Shael

| | | Posted by shellyl Good boots are a must. I have always hated sneakers for work, they don't seem to hold up as long. I did however get a pair of Red Wings. Because of the solvent and inks there is a static issue. They had nothing in the way of a boot with a static rating that I liked. All too big and heavy. They seem to be doing ok but I am noticing in less than 6 months it might be time for a new pair. I am hoping to make it till Oct. when they give out the $100 voucher. Not worth the wait if I am going to be in pain again.
| http://www.shoebuy...5986/101777/203279 Those are what I bought. They might be of some interest to you, since they solved all my problems. They're EH rated, and something that the electricians where Sam and I work often wear since there's absolutely no metal in them. I bought mine from IPP, which is the company our employer contracts with for supply of safety toe shoes. They send a supply truck once a month to the mill parking lot where you can go get shoes and use your allowance and most of their boots hold up, at least where I work. They're extremely light, under 10 ounces a shoe and the leather is waterproof and kind of stiff until you break them in, but they have really good support. I've been wearing them for five days so far and no blisters, there's no break in period either. You can just about wear them right out of the box. I'm on my feet anywhere from 8 to 16 a day and these have been amazing so far. It's just the cost. I ended up paying 40 bucks on top of my 75 dollar shoe allowance. They are literally the most comfortable shoes I've ever had for work. It's probably the best 40 bucks I've ever spent. Shael

| | | Posted by WEKurtz Rainman, congratulations, you had what used to be called "The Rich Mans Disease". Usually just backing off on alchohol and protein with take care of it, but I'm guessing you were told that, yes?
| Yup. And I was told to lose weight. The sad part was that I wasn't drinking much alcohol to begin with. Posted by shellyl

| It definitely does. On the even worse cases, just putting a very light blanket on the joint can mean extreme agony. Not fun. The doc told me mine is mild. If that's the case, I definitely don't want the full case. To add further insult to injury, the anti-inflammatories were upsetting my stomach so I had to stop using them. Not fun having to hobble to the can as quickly as possible. The flare up has finally gone down to a minor nuisance so I can go back to work. As mentioned, I have to lose weight again which is not going to be easy. When I worked at the bank, I was also on my feet all day. Originally, they demanded we had hard leather soled shoes and I finally got around that by wearing black running shoes that had no pattern. I found they were not only a lot more comfortable to wear but they were safer as they didn't slip on the floor like the hard soled shoes.

OUCH! Doesn't sound pleasant at all. Too many from the sound of it. Is the guy having the same problem? Then don't bother talking with him. If he doesn't, then let him know he can kiss your ass as he doesn't know what the f**k he's talking about.
| Everybody that works the job Sam has been working on gets that, lime just causes wonderful issues when it hits skin, especially when the skin is wet. Dry chemicals usually don't cause major reactions, but Sam is one of those people who sweats a lot, so he's soaking wet most of the time at work, since where he works is hot as hell. Where I work gets hot, but usually I can sneak out the side door into the fresh air a little. Only dangerous chemicals I deal with are in the glue, and that's only if you like to sniff it or get it in your eyes. Kinda hard to get stoned off borax and vinyl acetate though. Shael
