| | | Last month I was out in Tulameen, B.C. and came across this old cabin in the woods. Only got a few shots before it was the end of my battery. Hope you like.

I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too! |

Ya that whole area is packed with history. The nearby town of Blakeburn (which is virtually non-existent now) was the site of one of British Columbia's worst mining disasters. August 13th - 1930, 45 men died in a mine explosion. There are a few scattered remains of buildings in the area amid heavy bush growth, but a portion of the main coal chute that loaded into the aerial tram cars still remains, as does some of the towers that supported the aerial tramway over loadstone mountain down to the town of Coalmont and the Kettle Valley Railway.

| | | Nice find and photos. Interesting area indeed. Is it near Rock Creek? When I was 15, I spent a couple of months one summer in a 'Youth Crew' camp. It was weird, but mostly good. One weekend we got to switch locations with the only girls Youth Crew. That included sleeping in their beds, while they slept in ours a few hundred miles away. The smell of her bed was intoxicating. Then we climbed the Kokanee Glacier because that's where their camp was near. Oh and one of the camp supervisors looked (and acted) like Bruce Dern. (Coming Home) If we were bad, it was stump duty, many stumps in the driveway to the camp. A good 'ol chain gang workout. The supervisors sometimes visited us in our beds at night. There was no actual sexual abuse, (that I know of), but they did get a bit weird physically, mauling us, or some of us. They bugged my neighbor fellow, (two to a room) too much one night and he cried. One guy there told a sad story about how his Dad died while cleaning his gun. I didn't say anything, but kind of read between the lines... The Bruce Dern guy would have competitions in the bathroom every morning. He would pick his favorite (most well hung) kid, and get him at one end of the long shower and bathroom building. They would both stand like in a Western Movie, at opposite ends of this room, thumbs hooked in their underpants, the only thing they were wearing. Then Bruce would yell: Draw! And they would both drop their underwear as fast as they could. Just the way it was, another day in camp. Have been wanting to tell that story for a while, and this seemed like the best place.

You have to look pretty hard and know where to look. There are quite a few abandoned mines in the area(mostly all filled in) but very little equiptment. Most things have all been salvaged over the years. There are remains of quite a few building/homes in the area, but most were built the way you would build an outhouse, so there is little more than loose boards laying in the bushes in places. Lots of rusty cans that are now illegible, the odd bent bedframe, woodstove...etc

| | | Thanks, you know I take that as a compliment, GRASS Hopper "Cool mining equipment. Is that a sluice box?" Mama's got a sluice box... Sorry couldn't resist. Plus I'm Raleigh excited about the bike you found. If that's not salt water, it could be saved. I like rescuing bikes. Since we're all so, (cough) traumatized by Micheal's passing, at such a (forced drama) tender age, same as mine actually, well plus one, yes I'll be in Area 51 for almost a year. So over to UTGC for a minute... And for fun: Mama's got a sluice box She wears on her chest And when Daddy comes home He never gets no rest 'Cause she's playing all night And the music's all right Mama's got a squeeze box Daddy never sleeps at night Well the kids don't eat And the dog can't sleep There's no escape from the music In the whole damn street 'Cause she's playing all night And the music's all right Mama's got a squeeze box Daddy never sleeps at night She goes in and out and in and out and in and out and in and out She's playing all night And the music's all tight Mama's got a squeeze box Daddy never sleeps at night She goes, squeeze me, come on and squeeze me Come on and tease me like you do I'm so in love with you Mama's got a squeeze box Daddy never sleeps at night She goes in and out and in and out and in and out and in and out 'Cause she's playing all night And the music's all right Mama's got a squeeze box Daddy never sleeps at night [last edit 6/27/2009 3:32 AM by A. A.lien, It's in a well traveled creek and looked pretty salvageable. I've checked out that street you mentioned and came up empty handed... am I missing something? Here's an old cabin I found recently

Looks like a fine area to hike, a bonus to find the cabin, maybe the Sooke Hills? Thanks for the tip on the bike, I'm tempted and might even pick it up if no one else does. It could have been stolen, kind of weird it ended up down there. I personally know nothing about Banks Street, but have heard a rumor of an underground space under it. Maybe worth some research and inquiry with the city. Or it could be part of the Bwkr network. PM if you want to discuss further.
