City Link

Recently a new road tunnel was put in place in UA City. An open day was held during which people were allowed to walk through the 4 kilometer long tunnel. Though having been in the tunnel before, this was the first time I took in a camera. The pictures would probably have been better if I had gone in alone, but they show at least some of the aspects of the tunnel system.

Approaching the southern entrance, note the big red exhaust stack as shown in the aerial view

In the tunnel itself - some equipment still on the right

Heading down into the Earth. Note the escape door being guarded on the right

Close up of the escape door and some advertising panels from the tunnel company

Some of the tunnel's safety features

Another safety tunnel exit. There is quite a slope to the tunnel here

A tourist bus traverses the tunnel. You can see the exhaust fans and overhead exhaust duct.

It was right here that the tunnel later sprung a large leak.

Yet another emergency exit at the bottom of the tunnel with first aid workers waiting

A refuge at the bottom of the tunnel, with a surly looking guard

Porta loos! How strange

An excellent shot of the tunnel
