York Mills Drain

Drain type: A large RCP running a very short distance to an impassable waterfall.
Year: Early 1960's.
Region: York Mills river, Toronto.
Drain accessibility: Entry involves a walk over some rocks which tried to kill Krall, and then an easy squeeze through the barred entrance.
Drain exitability: Same way out as in.
Traversability: Easy to transverse until you reach the four meter high waterfall -- then yer stuck unless you have the tekneek yo.
Interesting features: A giant waterfall.
Hazards: The biggest hazard is the rocks outside the drain, along the riverbank. They are very tempting to step on, but don't. Krall almost died because of those rocks.
Recommendation: If you live in the area check it out, and by that I mean don't check it out. Right.

Krall

WE WENT TO THE MALT PLANT AND THEN WE WENT TO YORK MILLS DRAIN.
We had read about the drain in York Mills sometime ago on infiltration.org and searched and searched for it, much to our dismay we had only missed the drain previous times by 100 meters or so. Oops.
This time! This time we knew where we were going! After we had been to the Malt Plant we went to our draining destination, York Mills. It was only a short walk before we set sight on our target, then it was only a matter of pushing our way through brush to the drain entrance. The river is just that, a river, something we are not used to -- what with our tiny Barrie drains et al. The scary rushing river didn't stop us though, we made our way down to the side of the river bank and on to some rocks, from there we stretched across to the mouth of the beastly drain and held on for dear life. Once we were at the entrance we squeezed, some more than others, through the loose metal bars. After we were in we marched down the drain toward the roar of a waterfall. It was a short walk to the waterfall, which was rather disappointing as it is impassible, but definitely worth it. It was the largest waterfall I had ever seen in a drain, as well as the most active. We watched a good long while, in awe, but it was then time to turn back. So, out we all went.
I believe sema4 went first then Krall, who almost died. As Krall was stepping on a rock to escape from the drain he noticed it was slipping. He then we to move forward and grab another rock, but it was slipping too. So, into the York Mills River went Krall, under an avalanche of boulders. All of us stood amazed he didn't break his arm or get washed away with the current; not to say he was very happy. So, up to a grassy knoll we went and sat down, Grebin proceeded to strip. Er. I mean... Grebin decided that he could builder the waterfall, but he didn't want to get his clothes wet, so he took them off. We then had to wait for Grebin to fail -- Krall was waiting in cold-cold misery.
After failing Grebin came back and decided that we would try again another day, so off we went in search of a fabled Grist Mill.
So ended our journey to the legendary York Mills Drain.
Yes.
