For several decades, this former Nike Integrated Fire Control facility was a Central Intelligence Agency Regional Relay Facility, aka a high-frequency radio communications station. There was an even more secretive CIA facility adjacent to it -- one that operated a mobile command center that would deploy during & after a nuclear war! Also in the area is a former US Customs "C3-East" command center that was very active in the 'war against drugs' in the Caribbean back in the 1980s.

The CIA's HF radio communications station there, like many other structures in the area, were badly damaged after Hurricane Andrew. That' and better technology (internet & satellite communications) caused the CIA to quickly close the facility & move out.
