When they broomed the Old Colony Line (Portsmouth, RI), I was devastated. There was a haunting miasma about the place, which I felt I'd never experience again.

Enter the Cape Cod Railway, with its four graffiti-clad cars stretching along a rust-stained iron track. Warped wicker fans drape like wilting botanica from ceilings that peel and flake in decadent rococo-like hues. Broken glass is strewn like glittering confetti along the isles and the seats, which are nestled in a grimy base of garbage. It more than made up for my loss.

This is a decay photographer's nirvana. The only mistake I made was not to bring a beer or two. After shooting in the humid filth for several hours, an ice cold beer would have been more than welcome.
