The "Round House"

Growing up in Charleston I always knew this place as "the round house". It was always my favorite home because it was massive, and looked like someplace one of the bad guys from a James Bond movie would live!

Henry Elden was a client of my Father's for a time and I remember my dad telling me about the massive two story indoor waterfall/garden and how there was trees that grew up through the house! I don't think there was a point in my life where I didn't want to get inside and see this place! I was out of town during the two estate sales that took place after Henry's death in 2009. I tried to arrange a tour with a local real estate firm but was told at the time they were only showing it as a business property, not residential, which I thought was funny. A buyer is a buyer!

Recently the home was purchased but a local Dr. His future plans for the home have not been disclosed. Today it sits empty and abandoned. Sadly it is deteriorating at an alarming pace. I noted several spots on the exterior decking that had become very weak due to water that was retained by large pile of leaves that had been allowed to accumulate. This house was designed to be lived in, worked in, and enjoyed. Hopefully the new owners will do something quick.
