The only building in function on the complex now is the Military Museum. There are 24 hour security guards on site (some are VERY cool, some are EXTREME jerks). Greenwich Metals (recycling facility) is now abandoned as well.
The buildings are supposed to come down this summer. Security was only supposed to be in place for 3 months... I guess at some point they have had their contract extended.
The last fire I am aware of at the site was in November 2007 (rear of the main building on Greenwich St.)and some rooftops in the complex have given way since winter time. Gates surrounding the property remain closed the majority of the time.
