The ore was first crushed into two inch chunks with a jaw crusher. It was then loaded automatically into carts, which held 600 lbs. each. It utilized gravity as its engine. When the line was loaded the full descending buckets developed enough traction to pull the empty buckets back up to the mine, and there was enough left over power from this to run the crusher.
